Chapter 43

The second Cedric came at her, Dahlia knew that if she didn't work fast, all her friends would die. That training session with Kayla would probably save her life. Even as she leapt out of the way of Cedric's first spear stab, she could hear Kayla's words in her head, reminding her not to meet force with force.

Cedric was much stronger than she was and his weapon had a much longer reach than her daggers did. If she allowed herself to even get touched by that weapon, she would not last very long for not only was her skin even more fragile than glass at the moment, but he could probably knock her flying too. However, on the bright side, if she nicked him with her dagger, he would be also be severely injured because Magician of Water daggers were not to meant to touch Magicians of Earth.

Thankfully, Dahlia's only training session had been with Kayla, who had also used a spear as her weapon. Unfortunately, Cedric had thousands of years of training under his belt and one training session with Kayla was not going to make much difference. Dahlia's only chance was to charm him before he could harm her. However, if she used her magic on him, he would never trust her again and they would have no chance of 'rehabilitating' him. She did have faith that he did have genuine feelings for them, but if she proved herself to be no better than Varmer, he would never trust her again.

Cedric stabbed his weapon at Dahlia once more, who dodged once again, but it was much closer this time. She backed up, nervously tightening her grip on her daggers. Since she was nearing the boundary, much to her surprise, Cedric kept his distance so that she could get out of the corner she had barricaded herself into.

"Don't go easy on her, Cedric!" Varmer shouted.

Cedric tightened his grip on his spear. His face betrayed no emotion, but he waited for Dahlia to be able to face him again before approaching again. Dahlia hesitated a little. She had no idea whether that had been genuine kindness on Cedric's part or had been a ploy to get her to trust him. She had a pretty good feeling that if she opened her mouth to ask, it would bring on the wrath of an angry Magician of Earth. Cedric was no fool; he knew that once she charmed him, it would be pretty much game over for him.

Dahlia moved forward, waiting for him to initiate the battle once more. When it became clear that she was not going to fight him, Cedric swung his spear at her again, slightly more vigorously than he previously had. She leapt out of the way, wondering how in the wide world she was supposed to get close enough to Cedric to nick him with her daggers if she couldn't even touch his spear or any part of his body.

"Are you two weaklings even going to fight each other?" Dr Lucy sneered, watching their passive-aggressive fight.

Neither Dahlia nor Cedric bothered to respond. They kept circling each other, tense and ready for the other to attack. Cedric was watching Dahlia's mouth; he was making sure that she would not charm him. Dahlia was eyeing his spear, trying to avoid getting in contact with it.

"Cedric, fight her now!" Varmer ordered, his tone so angry and commanding that everyone in the room jumped.

It was clear that Cedric was in full soldier mode, for he immediately attacked Dahlia. At first, Dahlia thought it might be one blow, but it ended up becoming a series of blows that she frantically had to try to dodge and duck out of the way of. In desperation, Dahlia brought up one of her daggers to deflect the blow; it was the only way she could prevent her chest from being stabbed. Cedric was so strong that the dagger flew out of her hand and skidded along the floor.
