Our 7 month stay quickly turned into 9 months before we received actual news about Medusa. Although it was our mission Stein still insisted small assistance for a previous threat to the DWMA.

"Medusa is stronger!" I said instantly when Stein's image appeared on the screen.

"I know I felt it too." He said. Soul and I weren't in the apartment, we actually found an old abandoned farm outside London.

"Are we ready? We already know her general location, can we go in?" Soul asked eagerly beside me in jeans and a 3 quarter length shirt while I am in jeans and a Beatles crew neck.

"I'd have to see when you guys resonate to full power." I saw Soul glance at me through the corner of my eye but I kept my face hidden behind my long blonde hair that pulled into a loose braid in the back.

"Yes professor." I said looking at Soul and nodded seeing him nod back I closed my eyes and held out my hand. I felt the familiar metal staff in my palm, I stood ready and breathe calmly.

"Ready Soul?" I asked.

"Of corse Maka, lets show him Demon Hunter!" Soul said enthusiastically.

"Demon Hunter?" I heard Stein say outside of my eyes.

"Ready soul resonance go!" We said at the same time. I felt his wavelength and allowed him to feel mine, a click went off as our souls connected forming one powerful soul. I felt the weapon changing in my hands.

"Demon hunter!" I yelled watching as the blade extended beyond its potentially full size, that was the power of the demon hunter. I took a deep breath.

"Soul that's good for now." I said through exhaustion.

"Got it." I didn't open my eyes until I felt the staff leave my hands but our souls never fully disconnected, they've always been slightly connected. The barn around me seem to spin and I felt my knees collapse.

"Maka are you okay?" I heard Soul say. I tried to nod my head but it hurt too much, I opened my mouth.

"Help me up." I managed to get out. Soul's arms held me up while seemed to be writing notes down on a clipboard.

"So Stein, are we strong enough?" Soul asked.

"Look at your partner, she practically passed out from exhaustion. Keep training harder but not too hard, you guys should be able to perfectly master the technique in two months." He said sadly.

"Aren't you going to help us? What did we do wrong? What do we need to fix?" Soul asked confused.

"First you need to figure out a way to do that trick with less energy and work on your endurance. I will contact you in a week to see how your combat training is coming along." He leaned back in his chair, either he was really disappointed in us or something was going on at the academy.

"What's going on at the academy?" I asked looking at his eyes through the mirror that sat on a crate.

"Lord Death is dead, Kid will be taking over the academy soon and Marie and I are assisting him, his orders exactly." He said.

"How is the academy students doing?" Soul asked.

"School has been closed for a week now but they are still studying on their own time." He said cleaning of his glasses.

"Professor during our performance, I felt your soul get slightly excited. Can I ask why?" I asked he began laughing.

"Have you seen the size of your souls together? None of the academy students can even compare to the size of your souls when they resonate." He said with a weird, creepy smile on his face.

"Really?" I said, he smile holding up a paper.

"I drew a diagram of both your souls apart and then together. Comparing Soul's soul to yours they're equal but when you put them together they become 4 times the size they were before" Stein said impressively.

"That's awesome, we're more powerful than black star." Soul laughed.

"Just don't tell him that he'll beat the hell out of you." I laughed.

"Indeed, well it's getting awfully late here in Arizona so I'm going to have to leave. So until next week you two." The scream turned off and we walked home.

Two months past and we practiced and practiced easily becoming stronger. Medusa's soul stayed at the same strength but we got stronger. November 29th rolled around and we made our weekly trip to the barn this week was different, something in the air felt somewhat satisfying.

"Professor Stein we're ready." I said, he nodded twiddling a pen in his hand. I held my gloved hand out and Soul easily slipped into it.

"Ready Maka?" Soul asked me, I felt his calmness which assured me to stay calm.

"Always," i said smiling, "Ready soul resonance go!" We said at the same time. Power flooded my veins as I felt the weapon in my hand expand and break past it's limit traveling the Demon Hunter. We stayed in the form for a while.

"I think that's enough, you guys showed me you're ready." Stein said. The blood strayed to slow down as our souls parted. I opened my eyes looking at the mirror that sat in front of me. I didn't feel any sense of exhaustion, I felt strong.

"Man your souls have grown. I gave you the files of this mission that you should have already debriefed." I nodded to Stein's statement and soul did also.

"We memorized it professor." Soul said.

"Maka there's a pattern to Medusa's weird changes in strength, do you know them?" He asked.

"Yes of corse, she's most powerful on the new moon and less powerful in the middle." I answered from memory and observation.

"When are you going to attack her?" He asked.

"Tomorrow."

"Why?"

"It is a full moon, she is least powerful when the moon shows." Stein nodded approvingly.

"This is our last call then, I will see you guys after it is completed for your graduation from the academy." Stein said and the mirror went back to normal.
