Josh's POV

"What the hell Tessa! How can you just go off like that alone? And alone with that bastard Luke!" I screamed in her face making her slightly whimper. "Something could've happened to you!" I yelled at her.

"I never want to see you around that douche of a Luke! Do you understand!?" I spat at her

Her eyes went glossy and tears rolled down her eyes. Oh for crying out loud! Really?

"Tessa, look I'm sorry for yelling at you like that but-" she raised her finger in front of me to silence me. "No! You're not my dad or someone who can tell me who to be friends with and who not! This is the fastest I've ever made friends in my entire life, and all you do is build a wall around my so I can't escape!" She yelled in my face.

Slow desolate tears ran from her unblinking eyes and dripped steadily into her Blink T-Shirt.

"I-" I started but she swiftly turned her head away from me. The tears flowed unchecked down her cheeks and dripped from her chin.  She was too sad to cry out or wail, she just stood there as still as a  statue while the magnitude of her loss swept over her. "Piss off, Josh. Just leave me alone," she said in a low, strained voice. I could tell she was trying to hold it in, but it was noticeable.

Tess's POV

I watched my feet take steps across the glossy tiles, my dusty converse next to the shined pointed-toe leather shoes of passing  students. I walked up to Luke, since he was the only other person I knew on campus, and tapped him on the shoulder. "Hey, are you okay?" An expression of worry ran over his face as he caressed my arms to stop my sobbing.

"I just.. I.. need-" he cut me off and pulled me closer to him wrapping his arms around me. His embrace was  warm, and his big, strong arms seemed very protective when wrapped  around my frail body. The world around me melted away as I squeezed him  back, not wanting the moment to end.

"Let's go somewhere quiet and chat or eat for a bit," he murmured in my ear, hot breath trickling down my neck making my hairs stand up. My response was just a simple "Hmm" and we headed towards the cafe and then to the library for some peace and quiet.

"So," he started small talk, thankfully breaking the awkward silence. "You live here then?"

"Yup, born and raised. What about you?" I asked. I wanted to get to know him. Like they say, the more you know, the better?

"I was born Sydney, Australia. Yeah, that's where the thick, irritating accent comes from." He chuckled.

"So any siblings?" I asked.

"Yeah, Jack, who's twenty-one and Ben, who's 23. And here I am stuck as  'Mummy's little boy'" He curled his index and middle finger to make an  air quotation, emphasizing the last part.

"But they're not here in  America. Ben lives with his girlfriend and Jack lives," he stopped to  think before completing the sentence. "I actually have no idea." we both  laughed at the lack of information he knew about his brother.

"What about you?" he stared straight into my eyes. His eyes were blue. Not like the sky which would let the sun rise in it,  and let it scatter its light. Not like the sea which would reflect the  moonlight, and shine like a diamond. But they were liked ice,  transparent. And every time I looked at them I could see the happiness within as well as sorrow and misery.

"Uh, Tess?" His raspy voice brought me back to reality instantly.

"Huh?" I said confusingly.

"You kinda went to Space for a second there," he smiled at me, his deep, adorable dimples slowly revealing.

"Oh. Anyways back to your question. Um, I have no brothers or sisters. I'm an only child,"

"Sweet, so I guess you're daddy's little girl eh? he mused.

But I certainly wasn't amused. The thought of my father brought the distress and discomfort back again. "I'm sorry, did I say something I wasn't supposed to?" Luke looked me in the eyes with concern.

"No, no. It's just that I don't live with my parents." I gave him a fake smile, but I was completely sure that he knew I was upset.

"Oh,"

I decided to change the subject by bringing up classwork. "Hey, Luke you know the maths homework we got from Mrs. Norris yesterday, can you come around my place to help? That's if you don't mind,"

"Uh, sure. Give me your number and text me your address," He replied. I was partying inside to the fact that I had just officially made another friend. We exchanged phones and put in each others numbers.

"Great, I'll see ya later then." I gave him a small wave and walked away to first period.

---------------------------------------

I was just about to leave the school gates until I stopped at the feeling of my phone vibrating in my back pocket. I unlocked my phone to find 3 missed calls and 8 texts from Josh and one from Luke. I opened up the ones from Josh to see what he had to say.
