Josh's POV

"Joshua Young! Come here right now! You have no right to speak to me like that, I am you're mother! If you ever-"

Before she could say anymore I left the house. I could hear her muffled shouting from outside making me even more angrier.

I go to my usual place, the park. Although it was windy, cold and wet, I still went. I decided to walk around and calm down a little.

Who does my mother think she is, going around telling people I have anger issues and that I'm weird? No way am I going back into that stupid house again!

I wince as I kick the foot of the metal slide in anger.
My foot was throbbing and I stopped walking, to let it heal a little, before I heard a shriek coming from towards the swings.

I hurried towards the origin of the noise, to find a girl, probably my age, pressed against a tree and struggling to get out of a boy's grip.

"Let go of her!" I shouted at the boy, making him let go of the girl and take a brave, confident step towards me.

I wasn't afraid, not a small bit. He looked as if he'd never worked out in his life.

"Why? What are you going to do about it?" He yelled back.

That's it. That's the last straw. Is he really trying to fight back? Damn, this boy is literally asking me for trouble.

He took another step closer towards me and from the corner of my eye I saw the girl edging away from all the danger.

Without waiting, I swung my fist to the bottom of his jaw and second later, he was on the floor, groaning and making noises of pain.

Ha! In your face you jerk! My thoughts played in my mind.

Without hesitation, I turned to the girl, taking a step closer.

"Are you alright?" I questioned, curiosity lingering in my voice.

What must she be thinking at the moment?
Did that jerk of an idiot do something to her?
Why isn't she at home?

She took a step back before replying, "I'm alright, but who are you?"

She looked worried and scared, I kind of expected that since I'm a stranger but hoped for the best.

I decided to immediately take advantage of her talking to me.

"I'm Josh Young. I just live over there" I pointed towards my small house, which was not much far away from the park.

"Oh," Is all she said. What? What is 'oh' supposed to mean? I decided to control my anger instead of snapping at her. "You should head home, it's really late," I suggested.

What was she even doing out here this late?

"I know," That was all she said and then walked away.

Anger started to boil in me; is she seriously going to leave me here, at a deserted park in the middle of the night, after saving her from some shithead?

My thoughts were wrong. She was a few metres away before she stopped walking "Thanks." She tried to smile but it was a really bad fake smile. She turned around and continued walking away.

I stood there, in the middle of the park, thinking about what just happened.
