Josh's POV
It's been a week since I haven't contacted Tess. She wouldn't reply to anything.
According to me, I think that I've been doing pretty well with my anger issues when Tess is overacting about such a small thing.Every morning of college, I find Tess in the same place I met her on the first day. I smile at her everyday to get her to forgive me, but she's too stubborn. As soon as her eyes meet mine, she swiftly gets up from her seat and walks casually towards Luke and starts small talk.
I could tell she felt awkward by the fact that she never laughed or smiled. It was either "Yeah" or "I don't know". And sometimes she wouldn't even talk, all she'd do is play with her finger nails and look around campus, trying to keep herself busy.
----------------------
As soon as I reach home, I kick my shoes off and head upstairs in my room and do something to keep myself occupied. But today was somewhat different.
Before I could run up the stairs, I felt a light tugging at the hem of my flannel. I turn to see who it was. I look down to find Lily looking at me with puppy eyes.
"Momma said you have to take me to Tessie's house or she gonna steal your bike," she refused to keep eye contact with me, and I knew exactly why.
I tipped my head back I'm frustration and let out a loud groan, making Lily run away as she knew what the outcome of this situation would be.
"Mum!" I yelled across the living room. I could hear the sounds of pots and pans clanging together before heavy footsteps coming in my direction.
"Yes, Josh." She stood in front of me while putting her weight in one leg and her hands on her hips. She nodded her head to signal me to start talking.
"Why do I have to take Lily to Tess's place?" I gave her a heard stare, showing her that I was in no mood to hear her rant about keeping good friendships and all; because if she did, all hell would explode.
"Because," she started, "I have to work late hours tonight and I need you to take Lily to Tess's so that she wouldn't have to be upset about you shouting at her. And I know that you won't shout at her in front of Tess."
She gave me a 'I know, I'm you mother' look, which irritated me even more.
"Mum, I-" her eyes turned from warm to ice cold at my attempt of making an excuse not to go to Tess's house.
"No. No more excuses Josh. I've had enough of you not listening to me all the time. If you don't take Lily to Tess, then I'm taking your bike. Period."
I let out another groan before stomping up the stairs, into my room.
If I decided to tell Tess I was coming, she would say that she's busy.
"Lily!" I yelled from my bedroom.
I heard hurried baby footsteps coming from the stairs.
I turn around to find Lily dressed I'm her Frozen PJs and a stuffed Olaf in her minute hands."Get ready. We're going to Tessa's house." I said to her calmly.
"But Momma said, I have to wear nightie in case I fall asleep." She murmured with and innocent look on her face.
I let out a more frustrated groan and took a step closer to Lily and pointed a finger at her. "You're going to change those now." I gritted through my teeth, giving her hard stares to show her I'm not in the right mood.
Her lower lip started quivering at my words, her eyes immediately went glossy. She quickly left my bedroom and I assumed went to my Mum's room because I heard the same words I hear every day.
"Josh! What did you do? Come here, now!" She yelled, from her room. I grumbled a few words to myself before heading towards my Mum's oh so wonderful room.
As soon as I reach the door frame of her room, I see Lily being embraced by Mum's huge arms while she sobbed.
Just after Lily's eyes caught a glimpse of my body, she gasped and hid behind Mum.
That's when all the scolding started. "Josh. How many times have I told you not to scare Lily like that?" She started off calmly. "Many times! And I'm fed up!" She screamed. And there she goes. I rolled my eyes as she continued giving me the same lecture I get from her almost everyday.
"Mum, you can't let her go like that." I explained, and sort of whined.
"Yes. I. Can. Because you two are staying there overnight. I don't trust you here alone." She explained sternly.
"Oh my God!" I groaned. I knew there was no easy out of this, do I decided not to reply.
"Lily, go get ready. You're going to Tessa's house for a sleepover," she said to Lily without waiting for a reply from me.
I let out another moan before stomping towards the living room, putting on my boots and grabbing my jacket.
"Come on." I gritted through my teeth.
Lily hesitantly got up from behind Mum and skipped towards me.
Five minutes later, both Lily and me were on out bike, in our way to Tess's place.
The weather wasn't too bad; it was fresh and calming. There weren't many cars or people which made me feel even more peaceful.
That's when it clicked. I'm going to Tess's place although she's angry and upset with me. And worse of all, she doesn't even know.
"Why!" I half groaned- half yelled while tipping my head back in frustration. Lily was taken back by my sudden movement and let out a squeal as my eyes were off the road.
I quickly put my concentration back on the road and quietly drove to her house.
God give me strength.
