Luke's POV

"Get out of my house." I stood up, looking at the dad I once knew.

"Luke-"

"Shut up!! Get out!" I was furious. My dad dropped his stuff and walked towards me.

"Boy, this is my house. You can't talk to me like that." Ashton stood up next to me, just in case. "Your mother must have neglected to tell you how to have some respect."

I raised my voice, my body was shaking from anger, "Don't talk about my mom. And how dare you talk to me of respect? You treat my mother like complete shit then tell me to respect you?" Calum and Michael stood up and assessed the situation.

"Luke?" Great, here comes my mom, "Are you guys alright?" Her voice sweet and gentle. That is until she reached the kitchen. I watched her face drop, I clenched my jaw until I had a headache.

"Leave. Now." She looked at my dad and stepped in front of me. She started crying and I grabbed her hand, assuring her that I was on her side.

He picked up his bag aggressively. "You know I thought just maybe my family would welcome me back in my own house." His voice boomed and my mom squeezed her eyes shut, in pain.

I rolled my eyes, "Oh bull sh-"

"Luke." My mom squeezed my hand and Calum patted my back. "Just leave." Her voice trembled in fear. "I will call the police." And with that he called her the worst name I have ever heard, and ran to the door. I dropped my mom's hand and ran after him.

"Luke! Stop!" Ashton grabbed my arm before I could catch him. "Stop."

I ripped my arm from his grasp. "Did you hear what he just called my mom? I can't let him leave untouched!" Calum walked to the door and locked it shut, I stared at them, still in shock.

"Just let him go. Don't give him the time of day." Ashton spoke slowly and rationally, typical Ashton. I roll my eyes and push him out of my way, I walk in the kitchen seeing Michael hold my mom in embrace.

"Mom." I say softly and touch her hand. "Are you alright?" She lifted her face up from Michael's chest, tears all over his shirt and her face. She gave a soft smile.

"It will be ok. I love you boys so much." She looked at the four of us and I pulled her into a hug. "Thank you baby." She sobbed into my arm, the boys came around us and joined in a group hug. Surprisingly, my mom started laughing, "You guys." She giggled and sniffed.

"Momma Hemmings." Ashton started, "You're the best." We all let go of each other.

"Mom why don't you go to bed?" I suggested and she nodded, then made her way upstairs.

The four of us sat in silence. "Sorry Ashton." I said quietly. He shook his head, accepting my apology. "It's late guys." Michael stood up and stretched.

"Yeah I'm going home." The three of them piled out of my house, leaving me alone. My friends are the best, I'm just glad Christine didn't see that side of me. I get so protective and fired up about the things I love, it's either a blessing or a curse.

Christine's POV

"I'm so sad, I might cry." Ashlee whined for the fifth time.

"You'll come back!" I say over my shoulder as once again we are running to first period.

"Can you promise me that?!" She yells dramatically. I roll my eyes and hop into my seat, frantically looking for Luke. "Where's Luke?" Ashlee leans over in her seat.

I shrug my shoulders and the bell rings, "Probably running late." The class begins. Every 10 minutes I look at my phone, hoping for a text. Maybe he doesn't like me anymore, maybe he's hurt. This is killing me!!

Finally the class ends and Luke isn't there. When Ashlee and I get up to leave my phone vibrates in my pocket. I grab it quickly, Luke is calling me.

"Hello? Are you ok?" I say quickly.

I hear him laugh, what a relieving sound. "Yeah Chris, I'm fine I guess."

Rolling my eyes at the 'Chris' part, I wait for more, "Alright...."

"Skip with me. Meet me by the back door and I will open it for you."

I was confused, "Luke I-"

"Please." He demands. I shake my head and hang up, the things I do for this boy I swear. I explain the whole thing to Ashlee and tell her just to hang out with Ashton the rest of the day, and that I will text her the details.

"Be safe." She winks and meets up with Ashton in the hall, I roll my eyes and run down the hall, really looking like what Chelsea called me: a freshman.

When I make it to the back door I don't see Luke anywhere. Great. He stood me up, that jerk (I jump to conclusions a lot, sue me). I shrug my shoulders and turn around to walk back to class.

The door creaks open, "Christine what are you doing?" Luke whispers and waves me to him, he's out of breath and a little sweaty. We hugged and he looked down at me, "There was a police car driving in the parking lot so I had to hide in that bush." He pointed by the building.

I laughed, "You don't say?" I picked the leaves out of his styled hair and he smirked.

He grabbed my hand, "Get in my car."

"Stranger danger much?" I teased and he pulled me along to his car. We buckled up and once he got out of the parking lot I felt guilty. Is this illegal?!

"Where to?"

"Luke this is your idea! You decide."

"Let's just go to my house for a bit." I shake my head, "I need to talk to you about some things."

I swallow hard, my hands felt clammy. What does he have to tell me?! I hate this kind of stuff. Why couldn't we just go to an ice cream shop and watch a movie? Talking, now that is scary.
