Chapter 10

Guys guys Lily Collins is Christine. Ok?

"Christine is this you?!??!" I hear Ashlee scream into the phone. I laugh and hold my phone out a little.

"Yes it's me!! Oh my gosh I miss you so fricken much, it hurts." Ashlee and I talk back and forth, telling each other that we miss one another, and how school is going. I purposefully left Luke out of the conversation.

"Soooo, are there any cute boys at this new school?" I knew Ashlee would pester me about this.

Before answering I adjust myself on my bed, "Well I guess. A bunch of jocks and stuff like that."

She laughs, "Any in particular?"

I think of what to say, "Well actually I was invited to a party on Friday by this realllllllly cute boy named Austin...." I can hear Ashlee flailing around and screeching out of excitement.

"YOU HAVE TO GO!!"

I bite my nails, "And why's that?"

Ashlee pauses, "Cmon Christine when will this opportunity come back to you? Why don't you just go and be spontaneous? Party a little with this cute boy, have fun. But don't do anything stupid, if ya know what I'm sayin." I laugh, but she's right, I should go. Before I can respond I hear mom yelling up to me to eat dinner.

"Ashlee, I have to go, I'll text you and fine I will try to go to the party, just for you." I hear her screech one last time before hanging up. All I have to do is figure out a way to go to the party without mom figuring out....

I scoop a spoon full of mashed potatoes in my mouth and try to ignore the constant complaints of Jake. After he was done telling us about his school day mom changed the subject, "Ok here's the deal," she started off saying. "This weekend I have to go out of town for my job, it's for the new people who just got transferred. So that would be me."

I feel a glimmer of hope for this party, so I ask, "What day do you have to leave?"

Mom took a drink, "Well I assume I will be gone before you get back home from school on Friday, but I will be back Saturday afternoon."

I look down and smile to myself while Jake asked, "But you said that I could go to my new friend Matt's house Friday after school and spend the night!!"

I looked back at mom, "Well sure you can still go, Christine will drop you off and pick you up?" She stares at me.

In my mind I think how this will work out perfectly, but on the outside I shrug and say, "Fine," I gotta make it seem like I'm not too anxious for something.

"Ok, so it's settled?" My mom said and stood up clearing her place. It's settled, I think and grab out my phone seeing a text from an unknown number:

"Hey;) this is Austin!"

I reply, "Hi Austin! Ok, I'm coming on Friday! What time should I be there and what's your address?"

Within seconds he sends, "Yesss!! Ooh I can't wait ;) it will start at 8 and I will give you my address tomorrow at school?"

"Sounds great:)" I hit send and run back up to my room to do homework and text Ashlee about how easily everything has unfolded, it must be a sign.

Later that night I get a text from Luke saying:

"So you going to Austin's party Friday?"

I quickly text back, "Yeah I think so. What's it to you?"

"Nothing! I was just making sure we wouldn't have a tutoring session this weekend. :)"

I can't help but smile. "Guess not! Sorry maybe next weekend?"
