"Ok Hemmings is the only one missing? Does that sound right?" Mr. Miller repeats himself. I look around for Luke. I was excited to see him, and confused because he hasn't skipped for a long time.
Since I've been at the school for a few months now, I'm just like everyone else. Well at least like myself, ignored by most. I was desperately wanting to talk with Luke today, who knows why but I was. After the bell rang and 1st period was finally released, I bolted out of the class heading to the bathroom. Luke normally skipped in the bathroom so I was hoping might be in that general area.
I adjust my flannel shirt as I wait by the bathrooms, not expecting anything. I look at my phone until I hear a familiar Aussie accent. I smile and slowly look up. But my smile fades quickly once I realize he wasn't talking to me, but Chelsea. In fact, Luke completely ignores me and walks into Chelsea's embrace. I replay Luke saying 'Don't worry, she's gone' over in my head. I knew Chelsea and him would just get back together. They don't deserve each other, she's a total bitc-

"Christine!" Shane interrupts my thoughts. He slightly jogs to get by me. "Hey! What are you doing just standing here?"

I shake off the rest of my insults towards Chelsea, "Oh I just got out of the rest room. I'm gonna head to 2nd period though!" I smile and walk off, hopefully he got the message that I didn't want to talk.

"Alright see you at lunch!" Shane shouts down the hallway, I walk with my head down.

Gosh I hate myself for even thinking that Luke and I had something going for us, slowly going.

Luke's POV

When I walk out of the bathroom I see Christine immediately. This is why I skipped 1st period, I didn't want to see her right now because I'm conflicted with everything. Like I said earlier, she intimidates me. So I act like she isn't there and hug Chelsea. She kisses my neck lightly, "Mm you smell nice," Chelsea says into my neck. As we walk away hand in hand I glance over my shoulder seeing Christine with her head down.
I'm an awful person.
"Luke? Luke are you even paying attention to me?" Chelsea snaps in my face and startles me out of my pity party.

"Yeah, yeah what is it?"

She rolls her eyes, "Why don't we skip school for the rest of the day and find something more interesting to do?" She pauses to bite her lip.

"I think I have a tutoring session after school, I shouldn't miss that." To be honest, not sure Christine will even want to see me.

"Really? Wow." Chelsea stands in pure disgust knowing who will tutor me.

"She's just helping me get a good grade Chels," I stroke the end of her hair.

She nods and says, "I guess I should go to 2nd period." And she walks away not looking back once.
I have already had enough crap for today, I reluctantly head back to the bathroom and skip 2nd period.

Christine's POV

At lunch I try to forget about everything, it's not like he even likes me, I don't know why I'm hurt. I shrug it off and talk to Shane, "I didn't know you had a little brother!" Shane swallows and breaks into a smile,

"Yeah isn't that funny? When Matt introduced me to Jake I knew right away that he had to be your sibling. He looks just like you!"

I laugh and shake my head, "Oh boy. That sucks for him."

We laugh together and Shane asks, "Did you end up going to the party?" I sat and thought for a bit. I didn't want to have to explain my whole weekend, the party, and Luke.

So I saved us both the pain and flat out lied to Shane, "Uh nah. I'm not really into that stuff anyway I guess."

I've been doing that a lot lately,
l y i n g.

I see Luke with his friends across the lunch room and he eyes me. I glance away and Shane doesn't even notice, he is talking my ear off about how ridiculous parties are. Luke strides towards our table, what does he want. Shane stops talking when he sees Luke. "Hey Christine are we still tutoring after school?" His face looked a little red and he wiped his hands on his skinny jeans.

I stand up and gather my trash, "I'm sorry Luke but I have other things planned."

Luke's eyebrows raise, "You do?"

Here I go lying, "Yes I do. As a matter of fact, I'm hanging out with Shane." Shane looks up, confusion plastered on his freckled face. Luke looks down at him and Shane shakes his head yes. I smile at Luke, "I'm sorry, I bet that you can find something else to fill up your time." I walk off and throw my trash away, leaving Luke.
When I get back he is no where in sight and Shane coughs, "Uh what was that about?"

I sit on the edge of the seat and say, "I will tell you later. So I guess I'm coming to your house after school? We can work on homework while I tell you what's up." Shane agrees, gets up and stuffs his trash in his lunch box. "See you 6th period." Is where we end off at.
