The explosion tore another hole in the building as the guardsmen vainly tried to fend off the attacks from the rebels and cultist and as another fell to a barrage of lasfire, the sergeant looked around as he shouted, "Retreat!! Retreat!!!"

Gaurdsmen scrambled from their positions as the rebels surged in with lasweapons and blades and as many of them took and dragged the wounded guardsmen away to sacrifice them, some guardsmen were much more lucky as they were killed without mercy on the spot.

The manufactorum had changed hands several times already and as the sergeant and the remains of the platoon ran for the Imperial lines, lasfire snapped by them as a few more guardsmen died as they ran for safety.

It was the third month of the Second War of Carkiss on the planet Carkiss 10, in the Carkiss planetary system, and the Imperial forces were being worn thin by the tenacity of the rebels and cultist. Battles had been fought hard in the Forge worlds many manufactorums but the fighting had only seemed to end in stalemate as every push the Imperials tried to do to break the rebels only seemed to be repulsed by the rebels.

It was getting old and it was wearing down the vast units of Imperial Guardsmen faster than the Imperial Commanders had expected. The fact that this Imperial world was a Forge World meant that everything was city fighting and close-quarters, allowing no real armored units any way into the fighting except for the small Sentinels. But Snipers and launcher-equipped units were decimating those armored units and as the Imperial Commanders vainly tried to find a way to break the deadlock, more and more men and women died fighting the rebels.

Inquisitor Braddick watched the war from the holo-globe as his personal Inquisitor frigate, Carkiss Berserker, slowly orbited the world and as he watched the war, he sighed as he had hoped the war would have been done by now but it seemed to be heading the same way the first war had gone. He looked behind him as he looked at the giant before him as he asked, "Yes, Captain?"

"How goes the war, Inquisitor?" asked Captain Ventris, Ultramarine Captain of the Fourth Company.

"Alas, I fear it will end just like the first one...." said the Inquisitor as he looked back at the holo-glibe.

Ventris nodded as he asked, "Do you think we should bring him in from Ultramar and  use him to help fight back the rebels? I know he would most likely be glad to do it."

"I don't know if he's even alive... Although I think another Inquisitor is there so I think we can ask him for some assistance..." said Braddick as he looked back.

Ventris looked down at the planet as he watched the miniscule explosions light up the smoke-filled skies as he sighed. "Let us hope we can end the war so that this planet may escape a much more terrible fate..."
