Chapter 31

300 Imperial Guardsmen were not enough to truly break through an enemy stronghold, especially one that was as fortified and as heavily defended as the one sitting before Haydrax and that was even with 50 of the Adeptus Mechanicus forces with him as well.

But as he looked out across the space between himself and the closest of Chaos defense lines, which was some of the outer trenches with barbwire strung around them, he knew that if he did not go now that the enemy was likely to begin blasting them to bits with artillery.

And so, almost reluctantly, he got up from the lip of his crater and as he lifted up his dual pistols as he then took a whistle he had in his pocket and blew it as hard as he could as he then shouted, "Charge! For the Imperium! For the Emperor!!"

And with that the small army suddenly got up and charged forward as they began to run across relatively open ground straight towards the nearest trenches. The land was still cratered from shells and explosions as Stalker, Logan, and Shino ran onward with their Galvanic rifles, somewhere behind them was Stark, Toombs, Drake, and Rex as they all ran with their rifles and autoguns.

Somewhere to the left flank was the force of 50 Skitarrii and Hyspasists as they ran alongside of Evan, Widit, Theo, Engelbart, and Dewyer as they all ran in precise formation in the exact same step. Just behind that group was Angelo, Prhix, Eli, Scarlet, and Mac as they all were running amongst some Imperial Guardsmen who were around them.

And then leading the charge from the midst of the many Imperial Guarsmen was Haydrax with Chrima, Galek, Monster, Leonidius, Alec, and Jaxx as the whole group also seemed to be forming up with several of the Imperial Guardsmen Sergeants.

As they all continued to run for their lives across the No Man's Land, Haydrax didn't need magnoculars to see the enemies slowly forming up around their trenches to begin firing down upon the Imperial unit but just as Haydrax saw several heavy bolters and other emplacements mounted in crude bunkers around the trenches begin to swivel towards the charging units, Haydrax heard the screams of strafing aircraft and he shouted for anyone and everyone who could hear him, "HIT THE DECK!!"

Almost every single Guardsmen heeded his call and as bodies hit the ground with mud splashing around in some cases, at least 5 Imperial Marauder Bombers came shrieking in as they were soon followed by some Avenger Strike Fighters as the formation let looses with cannons, bombs, missiles, and more as the entire front of the Chaos lines was suddenly obscured in huge plumes of smoke, dust, dirt, and more and as everyone looked back up, they saw the entire frontlines was almost completely leveled.

And as the group all staid on the ground for but a few moments suddenly they heard the roar of several hundred thousand Imperial Guardsmen come charging up behind them along with several Sentinels, Leman Russ Battle Tanks, and Chimera transports. Haydrax could only smile as he then shouted, "Up and at'em! Charge!"

With a army at their backs and with the enemies fortifications before them having taken a huge hit, the army of 300 Guardsmen and 50 Adeptus Mechanicus rushed to their feet as they began to charge the enemy lines with wild abandon.

Shino tripped over a rock and as she hit the ground, both Logan and Stalker quickly grabbed her as they dragged her up before continuing to run forward. Shino didn't think as she ran with her rifle in her arms, simply hoping to reach the enemy lines in one piece and alive. She looked to both Stalker, still with his Arquebus, as he ran alongside of Logan and as she looked at them both running forward still, she could only marvel at their resolve.

And hoped she could live up to their own expectations of her.

And then suddenly the two, along with others, hit the dirt and as she threw herself down, suddenly a hailstorm of lead, lasers, and more came flashing over her head and as she peered up and before her, she saw the hordes of those consumed by Chaos as the Cultists and Traitor Guardsmen came screaming and charging at the Imperium Army.
