The Warfield (A warhammer 40k story)

Chapter 32

The Chimera exploded near to Stalker, Logan, and Shino as the three of them continued to try and run forward towards the enemy positions while bullets and explosives were snapping and landing all around them. The ground was becoming rougher and more hilly as the explosions from shells and munitions shaped it and as Stalker fell into a fox hole, Logan and Shino were fast to also join him as the three of them  popped up and fired a few shots from their rifles, Logan then said over to them, "Anyone have any plans of moving forward?"

"I head we were pushing a Boar Snout wedge through the defenders." said Stalker as he ducked from a shot. "But so far I've not seen any such formation from our side moving up!"

"What do we do then?" asked Shino as more shots hit the dirt around them, the las shots charring what little dirt was a around and turning the mud into bubbling goop.

"We gotta do what we've always done! Tough it out and fight through the lines!!" said Stalker as he popped back up and fired a few more shots from his Galvanic rifle.

"Kinda impossible with that turret in front of us!" Logan pointed towards what looked like a turreted autocannon as it shredded up the space between them  itself, the ground full of torn up IG guardsmen that had already tried to assault the entrenched position.

"Not for me." Shino watched as Stalker slowly extend his rifle out and as Logan also watched him, they both then watched as his breathing seemed to slow down as the incoming fire from the enemy positions seemed to no longer faze him as much.

And just as they were about to get ready to maybe bolt for new cover, Stalker suddenly fired and as he bolted straight out of the foxhole, Logan and Shino scrambled after him as they ran across somewhat open ground that was in between them and the enemy position.

And as they ran straight for the trenches before them, they suddenly were joined by several other guardsmen and a few vehicles as their sudden opening gave the assaulters of the Imperial Guard a chance to charge forward and attack the enemy trenches before them.

Lasbolts and autocannon rounds, plus mortar shells and artillery shells, exploded and rained all around them as the assaulters came under heavy fire but as Logan, Shino, and Stalker continued to lead the charge through it all, several of the Imperial Guardsmen and a few Chimera's managed to make it through as soon Logan, Stalker, and Shino were jumping straight into the Chaos-held trenches as at least around 50 more Imperial Guardsmen soon jumped in with their lasguns and flamethrowers and as three of the Chimera's soon parked at the trenches lip with their autocannons and lascannons firing at anything that poked its head out from the other trenches as soon Stalker, Logan, and Shino were fighting their way through the front trenches of the Chaos stronghold.

Eli, Scarlet, and Mac ran through the abandoned, outermost trenches of the far right flank, far more away than they should be in this battle but with Haydrax needing every bit of a foothold against the stronghold, Eli felt it being the right choice to make considering the entire assault had been halted to a stand to.

As Eli, Scarlet, and Mac slowly stalked amongst what were suppose to be abandoned trenches suddenly they ran into several, spindly Rustalkers as they all looked at them with their blades that were integrated into their hands, the leader of this Killclade asked Eli in its robotic, "Who do your loyalties lie with, assassin?"

"I am with Inquisitor Haydrax and his command... I am currently trying to find a way to infiltrate the enemy stronghold and help our assault continue its way forward." said Eli to the Mechanicus Ruststalker.

"Our drones have scouted a small gap in the enemy lines but the Techpriests require a larger one." Suddenly, several more Ruststalkers appeared from everywhere and as the Inquisitor acolytes looked all around them, Eli then nodded as he said to the Killclades, "Then lets bust open ourselves a hole..."
