Chapter 21

The elevator continued to rattle up the chamber as Haydrax now had decided to switch to dual-wielding bolt pistol and plasma pistol and as he kept them trained on the door, he knew that when it opened they would either push forward and make progress or be slaughtered inside of the elevator lift.

They heard fighting above them and as they all tensed, Jaxx suddenly chomped his Iho stick and he spat it out as it splattered the door in front of him but his aim didn't waiver from where it was. Drake, Rex, Toombs, and Stark all were next to Jaxx still as their guns only slightly quivered while Eli took his sword out while Scarlet and Mac kept their rifles up. And finally, Phrix had a Confusion blast ready in her off hand as her scepter sparked and crackled with energy that her staff barely contained.

Suddenly, the elevator stopped and they all tensed up as the fighting had seemed to momentarily stop.

And then the doors opened to see Engelbart, Widit, Theo, Logan, Alec, and Jonathan all standing over the corpses of several Chaos Marines, Traitor guardsmen, and cultists that were scattered before the doorway and as Engelbart reloaded his lascarbine and looked at the group in the elevator as he said, "Your floor?"

"Yeah... looks like you beat us, thankfully enough.." said Haydrax as everyone in the elevator car flooded out and into the rather large corridor.

As they all looked around, the corridor they were in seemed to maybe be the last one before entering the main cannon. It was huge, big enough to fit two Space Marine tanks and APC's inside side-by-side with some room to spare for people to walk around in. The colonnades went high into the ceiling, supporting three tiers of wide, open space full of machinery and equipment that almost clogged the large space up to only a little bit of room.

"You think the enemy is in here?" asked Jaxx as he looked around.

Almost like they had heard them, although they probably did, several cultist and traitor guardsmen appeared all over as they began to fire down and as everyone took cover, Jaxx said, "Me and my big mouth would do this of course!"

"Just shut up and fire!" Shouted Rex as he popped up and fired a few shots from his autogun.

"Where's the entrance to the main controls?" asked Engelbart.

"Up ahead, past those huge doors! But the doors have three separate switches we need to activate, one on each level!" said Logan.

"Then we split up! Engelbart! Take your men and Eli's group and go to the left! Jaxx! You and your group are going to the right with Prhix! Jonathan! Logan! Alec!! You are going to have to hold the line and advance to the doors!" shouted Haydrax as he fired his pistols.

"Roger!" Everyone shouted and then the group split off as they went to do their objectives.

Haydrx fired his bolt pistol as a traitor guardsmen was sent flying form his perch above them and as Jaxx ran around the corner, he saw the first lever as he smiled and said, "I'm going for the lever!!"

Of course, it wasn't as simple as it seemed. A wall of sandbags was all around it as several cultists with autogun were firing at Jaxx and as Drake hobbled behind cover and fired his rifle, his las shots went all over and Haydrax said, "Try and see if you can rest that rifle on something to help your aim since you did take a wound."

"Right... I'll try that then!" said Drake as he got onto his stomach and continued to fire at the enemy.

As Rex, Toombs, and Stark fired their autoguns, Jaxx bobbed and weaved around the available cover between him and the switch and as he fired his combat shotgun and he watched as his first shot blew a hole in a cultists chest while another took the hand off another nearby cultists and then he was past the sandbag walls as he ran straight to the switch and ripped it down.
