Meghan POV
My head....
I gingerly lift a hand and touch the back of my head, only to see bright red blood covering my fingertips, then take in the person who is holding my head in their lap. "Leo?" My voice resembles fingernails scratching a chalkboard, and a pair of dark brown eyes look into mine.
"Don't say anything," Leo coo's, and takes my hand in his.
"Well why not?" I ask, and Leo shakes his head.
"Never mind, but don't touch your neck," he says, and puts a hand around his neck, "you have a collar of some sort, and when I tried touching it, it zapped me a little."
I sit up and look to see Roy sitting in a corner, appearing deep in thought, Zoë sitting with her knees pulled up to her chin, and Caleb sitting next to her, looking concerned. "We don't know how to get out," the blond sighs, "any ideas?"
I try to make a bubble of water form, something I do when I think. But instead of a satisfying blurb of Aqua, a electric zap goes through my neck and I cringe. Found out what the collars for....
"I've got nothing," I sigh. "Unless we can get that door open," I point at what looks like a very heavy door, bolt and lock included. "We could try taking out a guard. But Zoë and I can't do anything until we get these demonic necklaces off.""True," says Leo, and then the door swings open, a familiar face appears.
"Grant Ward," Zoë hisses and the dark haired guy squints his eyes.
"You act like you don't like me," the guy says and walks over to my friend. Flicking the top of her head, he sneers, "I thought we were friends."
"Don't touch her," Caleb stands, only to get pushed back down.
"Stay down, so I can get a look at all of you," the Hydra agent says, and looks at all of us at once. "You," he says pointing at Leo. "Come with me."
Leo tenses up and doesn't move from his position. "I'd really rather not," sarcasm drips from his tone, "is there a second option?"
The Hydra guy steps forward, and with a not so gentle force grabs Leo's arm and yanks him up. "Don't hurt him!" I word vomit, not meaning to say it out loud.
Chuckling darkly, Ward says, "you wanna take his place?"
Leo looks at me in horror, "no. I'll go, just leave her, and the rest of them alone."
"Leo," Roy says in a almost whimper, but Leo starts to walk out the door voluntarily, not saying another word. "Leo!" Roy says, and tried to stop him, but the door shuts and the four of us are left in silence and fear of what was going to happen.
Leo's POV
"Don't bother trying to get away," this Ward guy spits, "because all efforts to get away are hopeless."
"What a cliche bad guy statement," I scoff, nothing in my tone playful or light. "I thought you were a bit more original than that."
He hits me to the ground, my frail body slamming into a wall. "That's enough," a delicate voice says. "We need them alive for this to work. You can beat on them later," I look up and see a woman dressed in a flowery dress, her perfectly painted lips in a scary smile. "Bring him in."
I'm soon roughly lifted and practically dragged into a new room, and before I know it I'm laying across a funky medical bed, restraint straps included. I'm strapped in, and some people dressed in white are walking around with test tubes and needles.
The flower lady soon appears, and looks at me like a fresh cut of meat at a grocery store. She traces a manicured nail across my jaw, the feeling a bit freaky. "Shame to hurt a creature like you," she pouts. "But in the name of science and Hydra I have to cause you a little pain." She's handed a long and vicious looking needle, my heart dropping into my stomach. "This will only hurt a little," she darkly whispers and soon the needles perpetrating into my flesh. I cringe and cry out a little, and after what seems forever she pulls out the needle and steps back. "The serum will soon take effect," she announces to a group of people. "Take notes."
'Take notes?'
The I feel it.
It crawls from my neck and into my skull, intruding the peace and stability I was in. The pain is excruciating, like a thousand knifes and bullets are being dropped and fired into me.
I pass out from the loss of oxygen to my brain.
But my own screaming rings in my ears.
I surrender, because it's hopeless.
<<<<Well that was interesting. And dark and scary.
