***Chapter 10***

I stood up slowly and moved towards the sound of the voice. The voice sounded like Angels were whistling along with the beautiful sweetness of a fly fart. In other words, it was indescribable, yet familiar.

I’m outta touch, I’m outta love

I’ll pick you up when you’re getting down.

And out’ve all these things I’ve done,

I think I love you better now.

I turned to corner of the beach house porch to see Harry sitting on the hidden porch swing. He was singing quietly to himself in our secluded area. Not only that, but he was singing my favorite song.

His eyes were closed as he sat there, his head back, face slightly in the direction of the sea. I don’t think he heard me walk over and stand up against the wall at the end of the porch. I closed my eyes, listening to his beauteous voice.

I’ll paint you by number,

And color you in.

If things go right we can frame it,

And put you on a wall.

I started humming slightly along with his voice. I could barely hear myself, that’s how quiet it was.

And it’s so hard to say it,

But I’ve been there before.

I’ll surrender up my heart

And swap it for yours.

I opened my eyes to find Harry staring at me with curiosity and adornment in his eyes. Huh, weird. My cheeks grew red when I saw him smirk.

“Couldn’t sleep either, huh.” He asked even though it was more of a question.

“Yeah, that and the fact that Eleanor is passed out on my bed.” I told him shrugging. He gave me a small laugh and smile. I returned the smile and went over to sit next to him on the porch swing.

A silence settled over us. It wasn’t awkward, it was comfortable. Despite that, being the person I am, can’t stand silences whatsoever. Someone, either I or the other person, had to be talking. Also, being a complete idiot, said the stupidest thing ever to be said.

“You have a really good voice,” I said breaking the silence. I didn’t look at him in fear of me blushing. I kept my eyes locked on the floor boards of the deck. I don’t even know why I said this; it just kind of slipped out of my mouth. I regretted the words the moment they came out. I mentally face palmed myself for being so idiotic.

“Thanks,” He said and I could almost hear the smirk in his voice.

“Ed’s my favorite artist, actually. That’s probably my favorite song ever.” I told him, finally giving up and looking at him. I managed to keep my face emotionless, as it usually is. He just smiled, looking at the floorboards.

“Yeah, Ed has a way with music. No one can replicate it.” He said and laughing slightly, afterwards. I smiled and thought how cute it was that he tried not to laugh, but of course failed. Wait, cute? No Drew, ew, how could you say that. Okay, maybe he is a little cute. No stop. Stupid teenage hormones.

“His lyrics can mean so much, but never be understood to someone who has never witnessed or lived through the experience. Do you know what I mean?” I ask him.

“Honestly, no. I lost you there.” He said scratching behind his head awkwardly. I chuckled slightly.

“Nevermind. What song do you like the most?” I asked him, trying to keep the conversation going.

“Erm, Gold Rush, I think that’s what it’s called. Yeah, Gold Rush.” I nodded, remembering the song lyrics in my head.

Maybe you should learn to love her

Like like the way,

Maybe you should learn to love her

Like like the way,

You wanna be loved.

                “It’s a good song.”

“Yeah, it is. It really displays how the men in today’s society can be anything but gentlemen. And that’s completely true. Girls and women should be treated right. You know what I mean?” He said, kind of out of the blue.

“No, I lost you there.” I said mockingly and stuck my tongue out at him as he watched me. His eyes flickered to my lips, only to return to the gaze of my eyes. He leaned in and my body took over. I don’t know why, but I started to lean in too. For a scary moment, my eyes were found wandering to his lips. I saw him smirk and immediately backed and looked away.

“You can do that, you know.” He said and I knew exactly what he was talking about. He wants me to kiss him.

“Yeah? Well, I think I’m good.” I told him sarcastically being myself. And from that, I stood up and walked away.
