Day of the Departed

(Okay, this is a long one. Over 11'000 words. I hope I did well. And I think some of you will REALLY like this one.)

Weeks later, things have definitely improved. Zane and Zion have quickly bonded, Ninjago has been at peace for a while and things in the team are going smoothly. Though, today is a day that always made me feel... lonely. Why? Well... Currently, we're racing across a desert. "Move, move, move! We're running out of time. Pick up the pace!" I blink, hearing Kai through the coms. Rolling my eyes, I adjust my grip on the joystick and make the helicopter move faster. "Yes, Ninja. It's up to us to save the day. Again." Cole says. "You're making this sound hard, Tiger." I tease, moving to be fly above him, Kai, Nya and Zane.

"Roger that, Kai. Zane, do you have a read?" Nya asks. I cannot help but smile at the silliness of it all. "ETA, too late. Unless we break all speed limits. Increase velocity!" Zane informs. (🏎️ 💨) I flip a few switches, activating the thrusters a little to go faster. I feel Lloyd arrive and look to find him passing by the others. "Ninja, I've reached the rendezvous point. Where are you?" Wu asks over the coms. "The museum is still five clicks away. We're on our way." Lloyd tells him.

Jay appears flying in the jet. "Look up, kids. Jay just saved the day. Heh, heh. Race ya there, Lloyd." Jay says. "I still don't understand how you got the Supersonic Raider Jet." Lloyd says. "Uh, cuz I called dibs. Guy who calls-" I stop listening as my powers flare up. Cole is feeling distressed, "Let me go get him! He's drifting off again." Shoot! I turn around and fly to him. "Cole, speak to me!" I shout, but he drives off a rock and tight at Jay. "Cole, look out!" (Eek! 😨) I watch with wide eyes as Jay barely avoids Cole's enhanced dune buggy. I focus a ramp for him to land and safely get back on the ground. "S-S-Sorry, Jay."

I turn around to join the group, "I know you're a ghost, but I'm still in the living world, and I'd kind of like to keep it that way." Jay says. "Ninja, time is of the essence!" Wu states. "He's right. Engage." I feel that Cole is calmer now, but that still doesn't change the fact that he was drifting off again. It's been happening recently and I worry he may end up... *SLAP* NO! Focus on the now. "We have one last shot if we want to make it. Combine for maximum impact." Lloyd orders. I move the helicopter to keep in formation with the group as Lloyd, Kai, Nya and Jay combine their vehicles together. "Fire all engines!" Lloyd orders, I press the red button, "Here we GOOOOOO!!!" I hold on as the copter shoots forward in rapid speed. (WOO-HOOO 🚁)

We all make it to the museum, park our vehicles and hop out of them. "Master Wu, are we too late?" "There may yet be time." He says. "Ninja-Go!" We all do Spinjitzu and enter the building.

"Thank you for your purchases. Enjoy the Day of the Departed." Okay, now you know the emergency; It's the Day of the Departed. A holiday in which special lanterns are lit, people wear costumes and take kids to get candy, but, most importantly, it is honoring the ones we love that are no longer with us. The team and I got lanterns because it is tradition to light one in honor of a family member, friend, or loved that have passed. I never really celebrated the holiday because I had no idea who my parents were but now that I do, I am going to make this day special. (Understandable. 🏮)

"The Ninja, the Master Wu." Huh? I shake my head and look at an elderly man wearing glasses and has a really long mustache. "Dr. Saunders." Wu greets. "Oh, please. We are all friends. You must call me by my first name. Yes, Sander. Yes." He says. Wait? "Dr. Sander Saunders." Kai says. (That's quite a name.)  "At your service." Dr. Saunders says, laughing a little. "I am so pleased to be seeing you at this now. We are opening our new exhibit. Come, you'll see, come." Dr. Saunders says, but while he is cheerful and friendly... I don't need my powers to tell me something is off about this guy. (Yeeeah... 🤨)
