38 Weeks

One Last Date Night ❤️

Saturday — 10:00 AM

The nursery was finally finished.

Actually finished.

Not Lilly-finished, where she would stand in the doorway for three hours finding imaginary problems.

Properly finished.

The cot was made.

The drawers were full of tiny clothes.

Nappies were stacked.

Bottles washed.

Hospital bags packed.

The little Arsenal kit with WILLIAMSON 6 was framed on the wall.

A tiny pair of football boots sat beneath it.

Leah stood in the doorway with Lilly beside her.

"We've done it."

Lilly looked around.

"Yeah."

"All the shopping."

"Done."

"Nursery."

"Done."

"Hospital bags."

"Done."

Leah turned slowly.

"So now what?"

Lilly looked at her.

"We wait."

Leah frowned.

"I hate that."

"I know."

Ash walked into the room and immediately picked up one of his toys.

Lilly pointed.

"No."

Ash froze.

Leah laughed.

"He's going to be so confused when the baby comes."

"He'll be fine."

"You say that now."

03:30 PM — Getting Ready

Lilly had booked them dinner.

A proper date.

Their first proper date in ages where they weren't:

* buying baby things
* going to an appointment
* discussing birth plans
* washing tiny clothes

Leah stood in front of the mirror.

At thirty-eight weeks, getting dressed was an event.

She tried one dress.

"No."

Another.

"No."

Lilly appeared behind her.

"You look beautiful."

Leah looked at her through the mirror.

"You have to say that."

"I don't."

"Yes, you do."

"I literally don't."

Leah turned around.

"You're biased."

Lilly smiled.

"Extremely."

Leah eventually chose a comfortable dress that showed off her bump.
