Chapter 35
When I woke up, I had a sinking feeling in my stomach.
Then I realised.
Today was the day Steve was going to Britain.
But where the hell was he?
I clambered out of the bed and burst the door open to his room.
It was empty.
No...
I opened up his wardrobe, his drawers, everything in the room.
It was all empty.
I sat down on the bed limply, my body numb.
He'd left.
He'd left without me.
My phone rang suddenly, and I hurriedly rushed over to my room to pick up the call.
"Where the hell is my phone?!" I said, frustrated, as I searched under my bed.
If it was Steve dialling and if I lost this damned chance to miss it just because the phone decided to play hide and seek with me now, I would kill myself.
"Found it!" I said triumphantly as I grabbed the rectangular chunk of plastic and metal from under a pile of blankets (I apparently needed to do some washing).
I groaned loudly as I saw that it was Maxine calling.
"Hello?" I said, frustrated.
"Where are you?" asked Maxine urgently.
"In my dorm room. Why?"
"I'll be there in a min."
Then I was greeted by the dial tone.
My eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Maxine was never anxious. What was happening?
Then the doorbell rang and I rushed to open the door. The moment I did, the twins dragged me out (as usual) and pulled me all the way to Maxine's car and threw me inside.
"What's going on?" I asked to Maxine, who revved up the engine noisily and sped off quickly.
"Just cross your fingers and hope, dear cousin, that we'll be able to make it in time to see Steve at the airport."
My eyes widened as I took in everyone in the car.
Everyone was here.
Well, except that there was a weird looking girl who was wearing shades next to Maxine.
The twins were looking at me grimly. "You knew too?" I asked dumbly.
"I just told them," sighed Maxine. "But then, I think there's one person you should meet."
The person sitting in the passenger seat next to Maxine took off her shades and turned around.
I gasped. "Melissa? What are you doing here?"
Melissa looked at me, tears in her eyes. "I was hoping the girl that Steve was talking about wouldn't be you."
"What? You know Steve?"
Melissa had a wry smile on her face. "Yeah, I know him. In fact, I'm his cousin."

We arrived at the airport without a word. I opened the car doors and dashed impatiently into the airport.
"Steve!" I shouted. "Steve!"
People everywhere gave me judgmental looks, but I didn't care.
I needed to say goodbye to him.
