I stared at the present that was now half opened.
I looked at the card that came in the parcel. It was from my parents. The card read:
"Dear Felicia,
How are you doing in San Sebastian? The house seems so empty without you. Everytime the phone rings I expect it to be from you. Maxine says that its a very nice place and I'm sure it is.
I hope you're enjoying yourself down there, but remember, fun is not everything. We expect those grades from you too. Kane has been asking me when you will be back. He is such a nice boy and we like him very much. But at the end of the day, it all depends on who you want. We hope this parcel made it on time for your birthday. Happy Birthday!
Dad & Mum"
I smiled at the card. My parents still remembered my birthday. I looked into the parcel and gasped. In it were some things a girl would want to receive - a new wallet, some new jewellery, makeup et cetera. But what was at the bottom made me gasp.
It was a brand new sapphire blue dress that hugged all my curves and ended around mid thigh. The twins saw the dress and frowned immediately.
"If we'd known that was in the parcel, we wouldn't have gotten you your pink dress," frowned Angela.
"What a waste," agreed Eleanor.
I sighed along with them. It was a really beautiful dress. What a pity that I wouldn't be wearing it anytime soon.
I opened up the rest of the presents within the next half an hour. By then, I was half asleep already. The twins helped me carry my presents down to my room as I wanted to stay on the rooftop. It isn't everyday when you can see the whole city of San Sebastian at a bird's eye view.
It was freezing cold on the rooftop even though it was summer. I rubbed my arms to keep myself warm. Steve embraced me from behind. "Are you cold?" he asked. I nodded and leaned my head against his chest.
He wrapped his arms around my body, sharing his warmth with me. "Still cold?" he asked. I smiled and shook my head. I looked up into the night sky, admiring all the stars twinkling up there.
Suddenly, very suddenly, a shooting star flew across the sky. "Steve! It's a shooting star! Quick, quick, make a wish!" I said.
I closed my eyes and wished: I hope this moment would last forever.
I opened my eyes and saw Steve smiling at me. My heart warmed at his smile. "I feel like the happiest girl in the world," I told him truthfully.
He smirked at me. "That means I kept my promise."
I stared at him, not understanding what he meant. Then I got it.
"Yeah, you did."
We stayed like that for a couple more minutes when Steve said, "Let's go back, it's late already."
"I'm not - " I was interrupted by a huge yawn. I grinned sheepishly at him.
"Okay," I said, agreeing. My eyelids felt like lead and I could sleep any moment now. I stumbled across the rooftop and nearly kissed the ground when Steve encircled me from behind with his arms.
"C'mon, I'll carry you," he said.
I shook my head weakly. "I can walk by - " I yawned again.
He chuckled. "You can't even talk properly. Don't be stubborn, get on my back."
Too tired to argue, I clambered onto his back as he trudged down to our rooms. I suddenly felt very self conscious.
"Aren't I heavy?" I asked meekly.
