The One (Chapter 27)
The summer vacation was amazing. Firstly, few days after my birthday party, Steve had taken me to the beach, as he had promised.
I was snoozing in bed that morning when he suddenly burst in all energetic and hollered, "The sun's up already! Perfect day for a swim! Wake up, Sleeping Beauty!"
He then proceeded to pull off all the blankets off me. Groaning, I turned around, sinking deeper into my comfortable mattress. "Steve, it's a vacation. Can't you let me sleep in?"
"What? Sleep is a waste of time. C'mon, get up and spare us the awkwardness and embarrassment of me pulling you out of bed personally."
I groaned and looked at the clock wall. "Steve, it's four in the morning. Are you mad? The sun's not even up yet. I want to sleeeeeep," I said, tossing around and clamped my hands over my ears, wishing that he would take the hint. Sadly, he didn't.
He grabbed my arm and rolled me out of bed. I landed on my butt with a huge thump. Now fully awake, I gave him my best death glare and picked myself off the floor, rubbing my sore bum. He shook his head and chuckled.
"You know, it's cute when you try to be threatening," he snickered. I glared at him again and went into the bathroom to wash up. I got dressed in a simple shirt with leggings and yawned loudly.
Steve took one look at my attire and pushed me back into the bathroom. "Are you sure you wanna wear that to the beach?" he called.
The beach?
"Wait, we're going to the beach?" I asked.
Steve smirked at me. "Didn't I already tell you that I was going to bring you there when summer vacation started?"
Realisation dawned on me as I remembered. "Oh yeah. Okay, give me 10 minutes."
I dashed into the bathroom madly as I grabbed a cute blue sundress to change. I applied sunscreen all over my body and made sure to dust some bronzer on my face so I didn't look like a pale ghost at the beach. Finally, I topped it off with a hat and slippers.
I stepped outside and Steve whistled his approval. I grabbed my bikini and stuffed it in a bag. In less than ten minutes later, we were at the beach.
I was starting to feel grumpy cause I hadn't had breakfast yet, and I'm cranky if I don't get my food. But the moment I stepped out of the car, the salty sea breeze instantly cheered me up. It seemed to have a calming effect on me.
The sun wasn't up yet. I turned to Steve, who was getting out of the car with a pair of sunglasses on. I laughed at the absurdity of his behaviour.
"Steve, the sun isn't even out yet. Why the hell are you even wearing sunglasses?" I asked.
Steve grinned at me. "You know, I have to look cool in public."
I looked at our surroundings. Not a single soul in sight. "Steve, there's no one here to impress."
"There's you to impress."
Ducking my head so he wouldn't see my blush, I let out a shaky laugh. "Haha. Very funny. Where's breakfast? I'm starving."
Steve chuckled. "I figured you would say that, so I prepared a picnic already. Hurry, the sun's gonna rise."
Woahh. "You prepared a picnic for me?" I asked incredulously. Whenever I went out on picnics. I always was the one who had to pack the food. But this time, Steve had made the food already. It felt sort of... good.
"Come on, stop building sandcastles in the air. At least wait until we get on the sand first, then we can really build sancastles if you want. Come here, help me unpack the picnic." I turned towards Steve's voice and saw him opening the boot.
