"Oh my gosh, Kacey, answer your phone! Everyone in the office is super worried about you!" My best friend, Ashlynn shouted through the voicemail message I kept playing back.

I haven't been to work in six days, almost a week. I know everyone thinks something is wrong with me. I just want a new job so badly! I looked over at the New York Times newspaper sitting under my desk shelf. "That's the job I want.." I sighed.

I dragged myself out of bed and into the bathroom. I washed my face, took a shower, then put on some clothes. I walked out the bathroom and into the living room to grab my keys - then I headed out the door.

I climbed into my Volkswagen and drove off to work. I called Ashlynn back on the way there. "Finally you called me back! We've missed you. Why haven't you come in to work the past six days?" She said, sounding relieved.

"I just, well, I hate my job. Everyone is so lazy, no one barely even reads our newspaper! But everyone reads the New York Times." I said.

"You and your dream job.." I heard her annoyingly sigh.

"What? That's one of the best things to happen to someone! They get to work for one of the most popular newspapers in the country!"

"Ugh, whatever. See you at work." She hung up before I did. I just sighed and kept driving until I got the office building's parking lot.

I turned off my car and walked through the doors, sitting down directly at my desk.

"Hey Kacey, we missed you. But this work missed you, too." My manager, William, said while throwing a stack of papers onto my desk.

"How come I have to do all this work?" I yelled.

"Shouldn't have been out six days. Get to work!" He said, walking into his office.

"Jerk." I muttered underneath my breath. My life is so miserable. I don't have many friends, no one likes me, and my job doesn't even help pay the rent much.

- Three hours later -

Finally it was my lunch break. I got up from my desk, grabbed my car keys and headed out the door. I drove to the nearest Panera Bread, but I had to walk my way to it. I parked in a parking garage and walked down the sidewalk.

While I was walking and checking my phone at the same time, I happened to bump into someone. I dropped my phone on the ground, making the screen crack.

"Oh my gosh, I am so sorry!" I heard them say.

"It's not you, it's me. I wasn't paying attention." I apologized. I am so clumsy..

"Here, I'll buy you lunch to make up for it. It's absolutely my fault."

"Oh.. okay. Thanks."

"No problem, what's your name?"

"Kacey, you?"

"Justin. It's nice to meet you." He stuck out his hand for me to shake.

I shook it. "You too." I picked up my phone, which was cracked, and started walking.

"So, um, Kacey, what do you for a living?" Justin asked me.

"I'm a writer at a 'lousy' newspaper office. Trust me, my job is totally not fun. What do you do?"

"Sorry to hear that you don't enjoy your job. I'm actually a famous singer. You might've heard some of my songs on the radio."

"Lucky you. Your life is way better than mine."

"Eh, mine is okay. A lot of work, though." Soon we reached the restaurant, he opened the door for me, and let me go in first. "Thanks!" I smiled.

"You're welcome." He smiled back.

We walked up to the cash register and ordered what we wanted. Then we sat down at an empty table and waited.

"Hey, do you think I could get your phone number? I'd really love to hang out with you more often." Justin asked, breaking the silence between us.

"Sure," I didn't want to hand him my phone, because it was cracked. "Can I see your phone, so I could put my number in your contacts?"

I slowly handed him my phone, and he took it from my phone. I guess he noticed the crack in my screen - how could you not notice it? "Your screen is cracked, did you know?"

"Yeah, I did."

"I'll buy you a new one."

"You really don't have to-"

"Yes, I do. I'm only doing this because I'm a gentleman. Don't worry about it, I'll take care of it." I also noticed his left hand was touching mine, which made me blush. I liked this man a lot. He's caring, and you could easily trust him.

"Okay, then." He continued to put his number in my phone, then gave it back to me. "You call me when you get off of work, or if you just need someone to talk to."

~ later ~

"Thanks for offering to take me out to lunch., I really appreciate it." I said to Justin.

"It's no problem. I loved it." He replied. "Well, I guess I'll see you later, then?"

"Yeah, I guess." I started to walk away, but he grabbed my arm and pulled me into a hug. "Bye, Kacey."

"Bye." He let me go and I walked back to the parking garage.
