"So, what's making your life, well, 'miserable?'' Justin asked. I scratched my nose and said, "Well, my job doesn't pay me enough to really pay my rent. It's not cutting it," I just put my head down and sighed.
I could tell Justin was listening, I heard him sigh as well. "Well, is there something I could do to possibly, help you?"
"What is there to do to help? I'm helpless."
"Don't say that," he put his arm around me. "you're not helpless. you're helpful."
"..Y-You think so?"
"Of course I do. But, you could live with me..?"
"But you live in California.."
"I know, I'm only here for a few days, though. It won't be a problem."
"That's nice and all but, don't you think it's a little too early..?"
"Look, I don't mind if a friend of mine lives with me.. for a reason. Besides, you could probably find a pretty good job there, too!" There was a short silence between us.
"I.. I can't," I ran back to my room upstairs, shut the door and cried.
"K-Kacey..?" I heard his voice follow me. "Leave me alone, I don't want to talk to anyone right now..!" I yelled.
I heard a banging on my bedroom door, then it opened. "Kacey, look. I didn't mean to make you upset.."
"It's not you, it's me Justin.. I just want to get away from everything. Start over."
"Then, come with me."
I sighed and looked up at him. "Fine. I'll try to get everything ready by tomorrow afternoon. If that's acceptable."
"That's totally fine. I don't have anything planned, so it's not a problem."
"Thanks for the offer, too. I really appreciate you trying to help have the life I've always wanted," I said softly, then hugged him. "you're such a great friend."
"You're quite welcome. I'm just trying to help." He hugged me back.
_ next day_
I called into work and told them I wouldn't be coming to back to the office anymore, because I was moving.
"Well, we'll miss you, even though you weren't here much." Ashlynn said.
"Thanks. Tell everyone at the office I'll miss them too." I replied. Not.
"Okay. I've gotta go, okay? Call you later." Then she hung up. I put my phone down and put some more things into the U-Haul box. "Hey, can you get that picture over there on my nightstand?" I asked Justin.
"Sure," He replied, and picked up the picture. "is this you and your parents?" He showed me the photo.
"Yeah. That was taken two years after I was born." I replied.
"I can tell your parents loved you a lot."
"They did. Now, can you help me get this into the truck?" I began to pick up a box.
"Mhm." He took the box from me and took it outside.
- 2 hours later -
"Is California really nice?" I asked Justin.
"Yeah, you'll love it." He replied.
"I hope so."
