My BestFriend My Teammate and Broken Promises

Chapter 10

Alex's PoV

I wake up to my alarm. Not a good thing to wake up to. I drag myself out of and take a shower. I put my training gear on and head down to breakfast.

Just about everyone was there already. I grab some fruit and and eggs. Nothing much since today was game-day. I sit down in between Tobin and Kelley. Lauren, Amy, Kling, and Moe were also at the table.

"So Alex," Amy says. "Nervous for the game today?"

"Ya. A little. I don't even know if I'm starting today." Just then Jill walks in.

"Ok! Starting lineup for the game. Forwards: Abby and Alex." My heart skips a beat. "Midfielders: Pinoe, Lauren, Carli, and Tobin. Defenders are Kling, Becky, Julie, and Ali. In goal is Hope. Now you may continue with breakfast." And then she leaves.

"Well I guess I'm starting." I say.

"You'll do fine 'lex. I'll be out there on the field with you. Nothing to worry about." Tobin says. I feel slightly better after she says that.

After breakfast we have an hour to do whatever. I go to my room and turn on some calming music and just chill for a bit. Then I go for a walk and by the time I get back its just about time to go.

I get on the bus and sit down next to Tobin.

"Hey Tobin. So what are we going to after the game again?"

"Well I figured after recovery we would hang in my room and order some pizza and get a movie and then after that we could go sightseeing around town so you can see all the cool things in New York. How's that sound?"

"Sounds great." I say smiling. She smiles too. We arrive at the stadium and we head to the locker room. We hang out and listen to music and dance while we get ready to go warm-up before the game.

I'm getting really nervous now. I must've not have done a good job at covering it cause Kelley and Tobin come over and engulf me in a hug.

"You'll do just fine." Kelley whispers in my ear.

"I believe in you. Just have fun out there." Tobin whispers in my other ear. I smile. I love my best friends. They always know how to cheer me up when I'm upset.

They pull away and we head out to the field. Warm ups go by quickly and then it's time for the game to start.

I go to up to the half field line and Abby gives me a thumbs up. Then the whistle blows. Abby kicks it back to Carli who passes it to Tobin. She breaks away from the defender who was defending her and she looks up at me and I know what I'm supposed to do. I charge up the field and Tobin sends in a great crosses over head and I jump up and hit it with my head.

The defender that was chasing after me runs into me so I fall to the ground. I get up quickly to see if it went in. I guess it did cause all my teammates were hugging me and jumping up and down.

In the first half we had three goals. I scored the first one then Tobin scored in the 27th minute, then Abby scored a header in the 44th minute. The whistle blew signalling that the first half was over.

Everyone was jumping up and down and yelling in the locker room.

"Ok everyone settle down." Jill says. Everyone calms down. "First congrats to Alex for her first international goal," Tobin squeezes my shoulder. "Okay I know everyone is happy with how the first half went but we still have another 45 minutes to play and England is a good team. They could out on top if we let our guard down. So defenders. Hope. Keep up the good work. Abby? Take it away." Abby stands up.

"Alright everyone. You heard coach. Let's keep up the good work and don't let our guard down. USA on three! 1...2...3!"

"USA!"

"Alright! Let's go kick some England butt!!" Everyone cheers. Kelley has been subbed in for Kling.

The second half starts and we manage to get two more goals in by Carli and Pinoe. Afterwards we shower and head back to the hotel. Recovery was moved to tomorrow so we could have all day off.

It was just Tobin Lauren and I in the locker room. We had just been laughing at something Tobin said when Serv comes in.

Tobin's PoV

I had just told a joke and Alex and Lauren were cracking up when a man comes in.

"Hey you can't be in here." I say to him.

"It's okay Tobin. This my boyfriend." So this guy is who Alex has been dating. "Serv, this is my bestfriend Tobin," he puts out his hand. I shake it. He seems okay. "And this is my other friend Lauren." She shakes his hand too.

"Other friend?" Lauren says.

"I'm sorry Lauren. My other bestfriend." We all smile.

"I'm just joking 'lex." We all laugh. Then Servando asks a question that I was hoping that he wouldn't ask.

"So 'lex. Do you wanna come hang out at my place or go do something to celebrate your first game and goal?" Alex's face is hard to read. I normally can read it but she seems to be trying to decide between her boyfriend and friends.

"Well, um, I promised my friends I'd hang out with them today since I haven't been able to for awhile. Sorry."  I sighed with relief. I look at Servando. He looks disappointed.

"Oh that's okay. Now go have fun with your friends." He smiles and gives her a kiss then leaves.

"Well let's go guys! We can't waste our day off by standing here! Let's go amigos!" Alex shouts. We all laugh and head out the bus. ________________________________________________
Authors Note: hey guys sorry for not updating in awhile. I've been SUPER busy. I'm gonna try doing double updates so you have as much to read. Can't promise that that's how it's gonna go though. Lol
