Katy looked at the fireplace, she phoned in sick for the last two days. Not ready to face anyone, especially around this date.
Her tea was warmth for her hands as the fire made an amber glow on her pale face...
With everything going on she didn't want this day to come so soon, she never wanted this day to come, it was just a reminder of all her pain she kept inside.
"Cupcake, could you run to the shop and get my usual please." Katy looked up at Tim and knew he wasn't able to face anything today aswell.
After going to the shop and facing everyone being sympathetic, Katy made her way back inside the house with Tim's newspaper and bottle of Jameson.
He smiled, taking the things and walked into the sitting room.
This was how she was going to spend this day... Staring at the fireplace and wishing she was in the car instead of Marc. Maybe if she was there instead of him, he would still be here today. But then again she's wished this so many times and for her mother but it's already done and there's no changing things now."I hate you!" Her last words to Marc spun around her mind. I wonder if he thinks I meant that? I loved him, he was my big brother and if I could go back in time and stop him and mum from driving off I would!
Katy knew it wouldn't be long till Tim was drunk and started crying about them so she covered herself with a duvet and rested by the fire."It was your fault!" The shouts woke Katy up... It sounded like Tim.
"If you hadn't have stuck your nose into our daughters life then everything would have been fine!"
Tim? It was Tim but who was he shouting at? Katy had to see what was going on. She crept to the hallway where she could see Tim but his back was to her and he was blocking whoever he was talking to.
Tim turned and seen Katy standing at the end of the hallway.
"Cupcake I'm sorry I woke you, go back into the kitchen I need to finish talking to Mr O'neil."
Katy walked back into the kitchen and slouched on her chair, consumed by her thoughts.
Mr O'neil... Harkin! Why would it be his fault? Why would Tim be so mad at him? So many questions but who was there to answer them for her!Katy grabbed the car keys and ran out the back door. She drove to the cemetery where Marc and her mother are buried.
When she reached their grave Katy fell to her knees.
"Is it because I was upset with Harkin? Is that why you guys left?" Katy couldn't hold back her tears any longer. Laying on the grave she clutched the locket with the picture of Marc and her mum."I knew I'd find you here." His voice boomed through her body.
He was the last person she wanted to see right now. Harkin was standing over Katy and the grave.
"Look lets go for a tea and I'll explain."
Katy kept her eyes on the grave but rose to her feet.
"I don't want any bullshit Harkin!" She turned and headed towards her car.
"Look come in mine, I'll bring you back whenever you want to leave."
Katy walked to his car and jumped in the passenger side straight away.Everything which whirled inside her head was stopping her from thinking straight. It was right now that she needed to be thinking clear.
Her hands were shaking but she had to try and wipe away the tears from her eyes.
"Why did Tim say it was your fault?" She muttered whilst rubbing the dirt off herself.
Harkin glanced at her and his jaw tightened, his grip was firmer on the steering wheel. "I'll explain over tea."
The journey into town seemed long, it probably felt longer because they didn't say a single word to each other.Once Harkin pulled up at the cafe, Katy jumped out of his car and headed straight in.
They sat across from each other waiting for their tea. Once it was placed on the table and the waitress left, Katy looked at Harkin waiting for an answer.
"Explain it to me now." His eyes raised from his cup to meet hers, they looked soft unlike his usually stern look."When I got with Scarlette, Marc came over to warn me that you would get upset and that it was a bad move because she was your bestfriend. Then your parents argued about having me at the house, your mum saying no and your dad saying yes. Your mum got in the car and Marc followed."
Katy nodded she remembered that night for she had just arrived home as they left.
Harkin rubbed his forehead and kept his eyes on his cup.
"Tim phoned me the second they left and I was on my way over so I thought maybe I could talk to Tim to calm him down then ring your mum." Harkin looked at Katy and shook his head. There was something he was trying to say but he wouldn't spit it out.
She placed her hand across the table to touch his and he looked at her again. His eyes started to water and he moved his hand away.
"Katy, I stopped your mother and Marc and after trying to talk to them they drove away again but the rain was too heavy and they crashed. Maybe I could've done something to stop them."
Katy felt like she was going to throw up. It was because she wanted Harkin that her mother left. Because her father wanted Harkin around that they argued and their gone now!Katy got up and ran outside, she just wanted fresh air. Maybe even to get away from all of this again.
Harkin followed her and grabbed her hand. Pulling her into him he stopped crying and kept apologising.
"I'm so sorry Katy, I should've thought with my heart instead of my dick! Would that make you stay?"
Katy just held onto him, crying into his chest and knowing him holding her right now was the only thing that made her feel like it was ok.
She knew he wasn't right for her or maybe she wasn't right for him but she couldn't leave go. "I just wanted to know the truth about you, Scarlette and me!" She cried even more and he walked her to the passenger side of his car. She climbed in and Harkin ran around and climbed in the drivers side....**************************************************************************
