The moving was slow and steady, just following Daryl. Beth and I would've been freezing if I hadn't made the wonderful discovery of clothing.
Bree also helped, considering we were hugging her neck, and her neck was pretty darn warm.
As the sun fell we found a cluster of bushes and trees and we stopped. "We'll camp 'ere." Daryl said gruffly.
"Just because we're girls doesn't mean we can't go on, Dixon!"
I knew he could go on 'till the sun rose and set again, but he was being courteous. 'Cause... ya know... apparently Daryl can be nice.
But it still made me mad he treated us like delicate... whatevers!!
"Doesn't matter."
Beth shrugged helplessly at me and we slid off the horse. As my feet hit the ground I nearly collapsed. My legs felt like jelly an my... upper thighs (?) were extremely sore.
I hobbled over to the brush were Daryl was setting up camp and collapsed in the bed of pine needles. Beth walked over without any problem or pains.
Of course. She used to live on a farm!
I groaned and rolled on my side. "She the cowgirl and I'm the princess."
Beth smiled and sat by me. "Don't worry (y/n). You'll get used to it."
"I better! This sucks!"
Daryl dropped a couple blankets by us and cleared a little spot for a fire. He lit a small one and pulled out a skinned squirrel he had caught earlier in the day.
"Watch this. Don't burn it. I'm gonna go set some traps." He gave me a look before starting to walk away.
"I can't cook, but know how not to burn something, Daryl!" There was no reply and I sat there, stewing.
Beth giggled. "I'm beginning to think he enjoys getting under your skin."
"Oh joooy! I get to be the ongoing joke for Redneck Dixon! That's fabulous!" I huffed and crossed my arms.
Beth smiled and began to lay out the few blankets around the fire. She turned the squirrel and settled down next to me. "He really is a sweetheart, (y/n)."
"Suuuuuuuure." I grumbled.
"He is! You saw how tore up he got over... Over Sophie's death. He feels the lose of everyone, he just keeps strong. For me, for you, for Rick."
I sighed. "And I get to be his joke?"
Beth smiled. "It'd be good for you both."

A chilly, fall wind whispered through the trees and Daryl kept watch, lying between Both and (y/n), since Beth had insisted on them sleeping close together.
Beth slept deeply, while (y/n) tossed and turned and made noises. Daryl figured it was a nightmare.
He didn't want to see the bad end of that.
He shook her shoulder. "Wake up!" He muttered gruffly. No reply. "Cmon, wake up!" Daryl shook her harder but nothing happened.
Suddenly she rolled over and rested her head on his chest. She stopped shivering and hugged him close, like a teddy.
Daryl tensed, but when he saw how peaceful (y/n) looked, he relaxed a bit.
He poked his cheek and she didn't twitch. He sighed and laid back.
Well, could be worse.
