CHAPTER TWENTY - ONE;
A MYSTIC ADVENTURE -
Soon after me and Quincy ambushed passed the detention room where Tom and Lucas were in, we only felt that it was right to leave immediately. I could see in Quincy's eyes, that they spoke of guilt, and sorrow for me. And perhaps that was the cause of watching Lucas suffer in that very clammy room.
Passing down the corridors, we eventually reached the main entrance of the school; which was very wide. Quincy nodded at me, and said "Hang on, I forgot my folders." But before I had time to answer or even react, he was off, towards his locker.
So there I was, left alone by the entrance. As you can probably tell from my constant moaning, I'd never liked being left alone; it made me feel unsafe and vulnerable. I'd even considered, or more or less debated, whether or not leaving Quincy behind.
But soon the time came, and after waiting for five precious minutes, Quincy came bounding down the lingering corridor. He was so lanky, and I was certain that he was only made out of bone. With 2% body fat on him.
The poor boy.
He'd always struck me not as a mystery, but as a labyrinth — a human labyrinth. You could get lost inside of him, with all his skulduggery and tricks, but then you could always find your way out, if you touched his soft spot; the key to his heart.
"Are we ready then?" He patiently asked.
"Ready as I'll ever be."
Opening the front doors of the school, we came treading down the stairs and onto the path. It was wet, soggy and somewhat clammy. The cobblestone irritated me as well, for an unknown reason.
The clouds let rain loose, and feeling eccentric, I remembered that I had packed my umbrella this morning. So, while the rain started to coat me and Quincy, I rummaged through my bag, in desperate hope of avoiding the putrid smell inside of it.
Eventually, I found the umbrella.
Quincy became the gentleman, and hoisted the umbrella up above us. I nodded at him to show my appreciation, and we headed for the iron gates.
"Lara wait! Hold up for a sec." Came a voice behind me.
I started to slowly turn around, until I felt a hand firmly touch my shoulder. I knew that stoic hand, perhaps too well.
"Lucas! W-what are you doing here, I thought you had detention?" I asked. But believe me, I was flattered to see him! He looked gorgeous, especially when the rain wetted his hair into a mess of curls.
Quincy gave me a disapproving look. Four walls and a roof, remember.
"Hey....umm I got let out of detention early, but that b-bastard didn't. Anyway, I j-just wanted to check on you and see if you're okay, after what happened at lunch." Lucas answered, his voice was soothing and calm, and suddenly I wanted to push away and ignore all those negative and doubtful thoughts I'd been having of him.
"Perhaps I should be asking you that question, Grimshaw."
"I-I don't understand?" He confusingly said.
"Can you give us a minute Quincy?" I asked. I felt the need for privacy, because this conversation was not going to be nice.......
He nodded, and I tugged at Lucas's sleeve. He was wearing a nice blue jumper, but with the rain, it was a darker shade of blue. I pulled him all the way to the top floor, and then eventually to the roof. We did not speak once while we were making our way up here, nor did he even question me to where we were going.
