CHAPTER TWENTY - SEVEN;
A QUEST FOR IMMORTALITY -
I wasn't sure exactly what I was embarking myself into, following two strangers back home, but I was certain of one thing: they were..different from the rest. They seemed so unique and natural around each other, and I willed myself to imagine a world without them, and what an empty world that would be.
We walked further, until we found our way out of the massive park. The moon was settling above us, coating us in immortality.
Our conversations were alive, and adventurous, and they varied from school life, exams and....my midnight adventures. I told them all about Lucas, and how he was a shining jewel on the core, but deep down inside, he was just another dust fragment. They weren't shocked or surprised, they'd said that one day they saw who the real Lucas Grimshaw was...and what he was capable of.
We waited for the bus, sheltering from the cold rain. Unfortunately, I looked like a complete mess; mud all over me, (from when I fell over.) And I dearly hoped, with all my heart, that the mud didn't set a bad impression upon me. But at the same time, I was almost certain that it didn't.....
My emotions were dazzling.
Scotty Summers peered at his watch. He looked at me, and laughed, and I could tell in that moment, that he was different from the rest - both of them were. They weren't cool, neither were they...nerdy. They were just different, plain different from the rest....
And that's why I admired them.
"You know, we should totally exchange numbers before we part ways. You seem like a pretty interesting...human Lara, and if it's okay with you, me and Olive would like to see you again - what do you say?" Scotty asked me.
I thought about my next answer thoroughly. Was I falling into another pool of despair? Was...was Scotty just another Lucas?
But sometimes in life, you have to take risks.
And I took that risk.
"It'd be my pleasure." I smiled, probably sounding a bit too bubbly , almost like Olive. "Just...please don't give me some 60 year old stranger's number, ok?" I asked, taking out some scrap of paper out of my pocket, and then writing my number on it.
Olive laughed. "Oh please! We hate pranks! And prank numbers...and prank calls...and...and..."
I chuckled slightly. "Don't worry, I get what you mean!"
And before we had time to laugh even more, the bus arrived.
***
After we exchanged numbers, the bus dropped off Olive, Scotty, and finally me. I went home, ate, slept and woke up from a night full of stars. Although this time, my night was physically full of stars, considering I left my window open ajar for purity and natural light. It was rather a bliss, in all honesty.
