Thank you for all the reads, votes and comments, they mean a lot. I'm not a medical professional, so it's most likely I've got my facts wrong.

Connie was in total shock. The person she loved, was lying on the floor unresponsive, with blood pouring out of his upper arm. Thankfully her doctor mode kicked in, she shouted as loud as she could;

"Can I get some help in here please?" Connie was on the verge of tears.

By this time the police had grabbed Josh, disarmed him and was taking him to the police station.

Dylan, Zoe and Louise came rushing in, all shocked at what they saw.

"No time for staring, lets get him on the bed, and now." Connie took over, she was going to save Jacob, but still in the back of her mind was the thought; this should have been me. Jacob had saved her, if it wasn't for him, she would be the one lying on that bed.

The crew picked Jacob up and put him on the bed.

"Can we get him 5 of morphine please, and can we book a theatre slot please, it looks like the bullets gone very deep." Connie's voice was shaking.

Louise rushed to get the phone.

"Mrs Beauchamp, are you sure your ok? We can take over if you want." Zoe said, worried for the response Connie would give her.

"I'm fine thanks Zoe, can we just get on with our jobs? He's loosing a lot of blood, can we try and pack this as get some fluids into him please Louise?" Connie was still in doctor mode, she was determined to save Jacob, she couldn't let him die.

"Yeah sure. Theatre only have a slot in 2 hours though Connie." Louise said as she rushed around Jacob. Dylan and Zoe were carrying out checks.

"That's not good enough! He's one of us!" at Connie's last words she almost broke down in tears. She managed to compose herself and walked over to the phone.

She rang theatre and had an argument with them, trying to get Jacob in quicker, he wasn't going to last 2 hrs with the amount of blood he was loosing.

"I don't care if you have others waiting! He needs to go to theatre now! Fine! You incompetent people need to prioritise!" and with that she slammed the phone down. "Idiots." She added as she walked back to Jacob.

"By the sound of that, I'm guessing we don't have a slot." Dylan said, in his usual calm voice.

"He's not going to last 2 hours. Were going to get this done, here and now." Connie had made her mind up, and no one could stop her.

"Connie, we can't..." Zoe stopped, Connie had given Zoe her signature death glare, which meant no arguing.

"Ok then, can we get Jacob prepped please" Connie said, putting on a surgery gown, and tied up her hair, somehow she still looked gorgeous.

The team started the operation, an anaesthetist came down from upstairs and made sure Jacob couldn't regain consciousness during the operation. It went well to start with, Connie just had to take the bullet out now and stitch him up.

"Damn." As Connie had taken the bullet out, it became clear it had hit an artery. Jacob started loosing blood even quicker. Connie could barely see through tears, but she still carried on, determined to finish without loosing Jacob.

"He's gone into cardiac arrest Connie" Zoe said as the machines started bleeping.

"Zoe, take over here please." Connie said as she started compressions. All of a sudden, Connie didn't care about her reputation, she loved Jacob. Tears were streaming down her face, but she didn't care.

"Connie, I think you should leave" Dylan said, worried for Connie. He wasn't sure why Connie was acting like this, she had never shown her emotions before.

"I'm not leaving." Connie said simply. "Not now." Dylan nodded, he knew he had to back down.

"He's gone into VF. Charging." Connie said, her voice trembling. "All clear?"

"All clear" Louise said.

"Shocking." It made Connie even more upset, seeing Jacob's body jerk up and down like that.

They shocked Jacob three times again, Connie getting even more distraught each time.

"Connie, we need to stop now." Zoe finally said.

"No. Were not stopping, not now, not ever." Connie said, out of breath from performing CPR. If Jacob didn't jump in front of her, she would be lying there, practically dead on the hospital bed.

"Connie, he's lost too much blood, there's nothing we can do." Dylan said, trying to sound sympathetic, it wasn't working though, he never could be. Zoe nodded in agreement, still both confused why Connie was so attached to Jacob, she never seemed to like him.

"One more time." Connie said, and before anyone could argue she powered up the defibulator. "Charging... All clear?"

"All clear." Louise said, convinced it wouldn't work.

"Shocking." Connie braced herself for the worst, she was loosing the love of her life.

But to her surprise, the monitor bleeped regularly.

"He's back in sinus rhythm!" Connie almost shouted, her tears changing to happy ones.

Dylan, Zoe and Louise all looked in shock, to think they were going to turn the monitor off, when one more shock and Jacob would be fine.

Connie closed up Jacob's wound, as Zoe had already fixed the broken artery.

Jacob was transferred to HDU, while Connie got into different clothes, her other ones covered in blood. She re-did her makeup, her mascara was now scattered around her face, and she tidied up her hair. She exited her office into the busy reception area of the ED

"Constance Beauchamp"

Connie turned round to find 2 police officers.

"Would you be available for us to take a statement?" The tallest officer asked.

"Would you mind if we did it another day, today has been a bit over-whelming, and Jacob will have woken up by then." Connie really didn't want to talk to them today.

After Connie shook off the police officers, she went to HDU to find Jacob.

As she entered the room, she found practically all the ED staff in his cubicle. As they spotted her, Rita said;

"We'll go."

"It's fine, you can stay." Connie wasn't sure how much they knew about what happened in resus, but they obviously had heard about Connie getting emotional, as they all looked really sympathetic, apart from Dylan of course.

As Connie walked forward, Jacob stirred. At this point, the rest of the staff left, to give Jacob some peace, as they didn't want to startle him when he woke up.

"Connie, Connie" Jacob muttered.

"I'm here babe, I'm fine" Connie replied as she took Jacob's hand, she was over the moon, he was going to be ok, and they could live their life, together.
