"Min Yoongi," A man in a finely pressed suit towered over him, nearly blocking entirely the light that came from the end of the alleyway. "Follow me," His daunting voice that was probably meant to intimidate him had no effect.
He didn't even bother to ask who he was because he didn't need to. He knew exactly whom he was working for.
The gentle splatter of the raindrops in the puddles distracted him from the anxiety that he strangely started to feel. "H-Hey, how long is this going to take because I don't have forever—"
"I think I should be the one saying that."
And his heart was like a drum, so loud in his ears that it was like he was going deaf.
"We need to talk."
It felt different this time. No pain from his betrayal, only anger which was already forgotten too soon. It didn't feel normal and it was beginning to confuse her.
Maybe she never felt the way she thought she did for him. He just felt like another thorn pulled out of her chest without the bleeding or the petrifying pain.
Although it took her strenuous effort to bring herself out of her apartment and out of the post-breakup drama, she felt elated over the fact that the seemingly heavy weight on her shoulders was finally lifted.
"He isn't here, sorry." Haerin mumbled without even bothering to look up at her. And just like that, her happiness bubble popped. Disappeared. And her shoulders slumped, a crease forming on her forehead as a frown etched on her face.
"Did he leave already—"
"No, he didn't come in today."
Again?
"Is he sick—" Haerin suddenly dropped the paper cup—Thank god it was empty—and stared straight at her. "Who are you?" It sounded more like a demand for an answer than a question she had the choice to answer or not.
"I'm Kim Serin—"
"I mean, who are you?" She sighed and crossed her arms. "To him?"
Who was she? She didn't know. Who was she to him? She didn't know that either. She had no idea who she was to him, where she stood in his life and her nails left marks onto her palms, itching to think of a what to say.
"Why do you seem to be so important to him?" She had her hands in fists on top of the counter. The paper cup had already rolled and fell onto the floor. How she wished she could just disappear. "I just don't understand what makes you so different?"
Serin couldn't bear to see the glare of Haerin that would probably shoot laser beams soon so she took the second best option; stare at the wall behind her so she thinks you're listening to her.In fact, she was all ears. She was listening to every word she was saying; every word that rolled off her tongue dripping with irritation and frustration.
She held her hands together and looked around the few coins sprawled across the countertop. Chanwoo must have wanted them counted.
"So?" Haerin raised her perfectly shaped eyebrow that didn't seem to go so well with the rest of her face; bushy eyebrows didn't look good on everyone anyway. "Aren't you going to say anything?
What was she supposed to say? She didn't know that either. "Forget it," Haerin sighed and continued counting the coins, kicking the paper cup away from her.
"Just tell him I said hi," She finally gave up on counting and turned to leave for the storage room.
"Don't think that we're already friends, you got that?" Haerin stopped momentarily, giving her a chance to respond but changed her mind and closed the door behind her.
