Slamming the door shut, Serin rushed across the living room and into her bedroom with her hands harshly wiping away the stray tears. "Fuck," she cursed when she unintentionally threw her purse across the room. After scurrying to check if her phone, which was in her purse, was still fine, she let out a laboured sigh as she collapsed on top of her unmade bed. All that crying and running drained out all the energy she had left for the day.
"Baby, are you there?" the knock on her door sent a bit of a jolt into her system, causing her to abruptly sit up. She wiped the remaining tears with the back of her hand and ran to open the door. "Yeah, what's up?"
He rested a hand on her cheek as he stepped into the room with her. "Is everything alright?" He tilted his head to the side as he examined her face. Serin forced a smile while nodding and pulling away from him; afraid that if they stayed too close he would notice she was lying.
Serin took a seat on the foot of her bed with her hands resting on top of her lap as she gazed up at him. "Listen, there's something I have to tell you," He knelt down in front of her has he took both of her hands in his.
She didn't know why but she felt quite anxious when he continued speaking. "I don't know if you'll be happy about this or not," He shifted uncomfortably. "Y-You're making me nervous..." Serin sighed as she rested her hands on his shoulders.
Silence enveloped the two of them for a few moments, making her even more nervous than she originally was. "I-It's nothing, never mind. I'll tell you in the morning." He got up and sprawled onto her bed, pulling her beside him. "Let's just get some sleep, alright?"
When morning came, the first thing they did was pack up then they drove back to Daegu with a couple of Serin's things piled up in the back of the car's trunk.
Serin busied herself by unpacking the few boxes that were brought into her new studio. She placed the items in their rightful places before dropping onto the couch and letting out a breath.
Suddenly, she felt the other side of the couch dip down followed by an arm draped around her shoulders. "Tired?" He asked her with a knowing smile forming onto his lips.
Serin chuckled and rested her head on the nook of his neck as a small smile graced her face. "I thought you were going to go take a nap?" She asked as she looked up at him.
"I thought maybe you'd want me to keep you company instead." He held out his finger, gently poking her nose as she pushed his hand away. "I bet you'd fall asleep on top of those boxes if I didn't come here." He pointed at the boxes that seemed like mountains.
Serin shook her head and patted the couch, "I think I'd stay conscious until I reach the couch." She slowly wrapped her arms around his waist as he did the same. "Then I'd fall asleep." She added and closed her eyes.
He rested his back on the couch, pulling her with him as he rested his arms around her. He closed his eyes once they felt comfortable with their breaths almost matching the same pattern.
They stayed silent for minutes, enjoying the comfortable silence that surrounded them. Although they were both exhausted from all the packing and unpacking they couldn't help but stay awake with all the thoughts running in their minds.
"Which reminds me," Serin sat up a little and looked down at him. "What was that thing you were supposed to tell me yesterday?"
A minute passes before he spoke up.
"I got a call from my boss." He started, carefully sitting up. "He's sending me to Japan for a month or more, says I'll be promoted after." He nervously scratched the back of his neck. Although he knew she would support him through whatever, he couldn't help but feel a bit anxious.
"That's great!" She jumped up from the couch with the biggest smile on her face. She pulled him up next to her and wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him close. "That's good news!"
Even though he was a bit surprised with her reaction, he gladly wrapped his arms around her waist and gently lifted her off the ground. "Thanks, baby." He whispered.
When they've finally had the news sunken in, they sat back down on the couch, smiles still plastered on their faces. "I'm leaving on Saturday." He took her hand in his, softly caressing the back of her hand with his thumb.
The smile on Serin's face slowly faded when she remembered that it was four days away. Although she could still feel the bubbles of happiness, she couldn't help but feel a bit down.
He lifted her chin up and stared straight into her eyes, making a silly face at her to lighten up the mood. "It'll just be for a little while." He reassured her with that smile that he knew would always leave her heart skipping a beat or two.
Serin let out a soft sigh and nodded, "You're right. It'll only just be for a while."
Being alone always made her feel a bit lonely. She isn't the type to be really good with the silence as indescribable thoughts clouded her mind most of the time. She always preferred to have at least a friend around to break the silence.
Thinking of the few months ahead that was mostly filled with a silent studio and a quiet apartment, especially in the night, somehow sent her to feel a bit of fear.
"It won't be too long." She smiled right before she drifted off to sleep.
