Nothing can beat the cold stare you give your archenemy, or the harsh winds that could rip down the sails of a ship, or the once radiating warmth replaced with coldness of a corpse.
Except maybe the deadness in the eyes of someone broken. The nothingness that resides in the pupils as they hold a vacant stare.
The glow in their skin, a sign of simply being alive is faded. Their voice barely an echo at the back of your mind because you don't remember the last time they spoke.
"Have you tried ringing him?" Minji mumbled under her breath as she lent closer to the canvas in concentration.
Serin let out a frustrated sigh and rubbed her hand down her face, "You think I wouldn't have done that first?"
In the first few minutes since he left her apartment she noticed how rough his voice had become. She noticed how his snow white skin wasn't the same; the healthy and seemingly luminous skin was faded. His eyes were tired and dull with dark bags forming underneath.
It baffled her how someone could change within the seconds, minutes, hours, days you're apart.
She knew something was wrong. The feeling brewing from her stomach that she couldn't pinpoint had placed her in an uncomfortable position.
She knew something wasn't right, but she didn't want to admit it to herself. She didn't want to admit defeat to her greatest fear since the day he came to her life.
"Maybe," Minji grinned in hopes of lightening the mood, "Maybe he went on a little vacation, huh?"
Serin groaned as she tossed her phone onto the table and then buried her head in her hands, "Minji, it's been days... He would've said something by now."
She was upset.
Upset that he hadn't contacted her. Upset that he just left after some guy harassed her in her home. Upset that he just disappeared. Upset because he just left.
She was upset that she didn't see it sooner. She was upset that she pushed the thought of him needing help to the deepest compartment of her mind.
She was upset because she wasn't there for him as how he was always there for her despite his shortcomings.
But it felt like she didn't have the right to be upset. It was her who pushed him away. It was her who left him by himself. It was her who let him deal with his monsters alone.
"Maybe he's busy with work?"
Serin let out a sigh in defeat.
"Yeah, you're probably right. He's probably just busy."
