"Wait, he really asked you on a date?" Brendon was sitting on the grass, looking up at me with a smile on his face.
We where sitting in my backyard, waiting until we had to go and do my chemo. I had decided to bring Brendon this time since he was the most normal about it. And as we waited the night of the party had been brought up and he asked where I had disappeared to. So I told him all that had happened and he was excided, the reason I don't really know.
I shrugged. "Yeah, it wasn't a big deal."
"Of course it is!" Brendon jumped up. "He wants to take you on an actual date, your first real date,"
I interrupted him. "Not really."
He scuffed at me. "If you would've let me finish I was going to say your first real date with a boy."
That was true, I had never really had a date with another boy before. That realization made my heart pound. It was going to be my first real date with a boy.
"Oh god, Brendon, what am I doing?" I was kinda panicking.
"Dude, just calm down. It'll go smoothly and you'll be okay, plus you'll get to kiss him for the first time."
"Uh," I started but he cut me off.
"You already had your first kiss?!" Brendon dramatically fell to the ground. "Why wouldn't you tell me first thing when I got here?"
I shrugged. "I didn't think it was that important?"
Brendon snorted. "Not that important? Not that important!" He went off. "That's the most important part of a blooming relationship!"
"How?" I questioned him, crossing my arms and staring at him.
"Its the beginning, the start." He started to explain. "It reassures you that they like you and are into you."
"What about people that just kiss because they want something out of them?" I pushed.
"They have no respect for the first kiss!" Brendon sat up.
"I wouldn't think you, out of all people, would care about this." I commented, picking at the grass.
Brendon sighed deeply. "I didn't get it until I kissed Ryan."
I smiled. "Good for you, Bren. But how do you know Josh is the right guy for me?" I asked, the smile vanishing from my face.
"I just feel it." Brendon smiled at me. "And I know you feel it too, your just to scared to admit it to yourself."
"Maybe."
We sat there for another minute before my mom came out to tell us to get going.
The drive was short and filled with talking. Talk about my first date with Josh, things like what I would wear and where we would go. But Josh had already told me he had a place picked out, and when I asked him about it he said it was a surprise.
I singed into the hospital and was lead to the same room. I took a seat in one of the comfortable chairs, Brendon taking a seat next to me, and waited for my nurse to come check on me.
Pete walked up and took all my vitals and started to hook me up. "Where's Patty and who's this?"
I was about to introduce them but Brendon, like always, wasn't going to have that.
"I'm Brendon, its nice to meet you too." He smiled tightly.
"Be nice." I warned them both. "Sorry Pete, but Patrick's dad wanted his help today."
