Clint had stayed in the hospital for a week and the doctor had finally discharged him.

Natasha came to help him back to his dorm, much to his annoyance. But he couldn't chase her away this time, he really needed her help. So he remained silent the whole time while Natasha packed his belongings and helped him into his wheelchair, occasionally stealing glances at her when she wasn't aware.

Clint thought Natasha looked a little languid, having semblance of eye bags under her emerald orbs that seem to have lost their sparkle. He then realised that Natasha had come to visit him everyday without fail, even though he was hostile to her and chased her away every single time.

She never gave up on him.

Clint felt a pang of guilt hit him. He truly didn't want to treat her that way and hurt her, if only she would just give up on him and leave him alone. But he couldn't go soft, he had to harden his heart, he had come this far. Everything he does is for her, he convinced himself, it's for the best.

"Clint, let's go." Natasha's soothing but slightly weary voice jolted him from his thoughts.

He nodded in a perfunctory manner.

He would swear he heard Natasha sigh but she resumed her cheery facade in the blink of an eye, and pushed him out of the ward to the lift lobby.

Jerome was waiting at the pickup point, causally resting against the side of the car with his arms crossed.

The side of his lips curled up into a smile when he saw Natasha and Clint. Clint returned the smile, much to Natasha's surprise. She hadn't seen him smile in a long time and she subconsciously did too.

The ride back to the school dorm saw Natasha sitting quietly and watching Jerome and Clint while they talked like old friends. Jerome chatted with Clint and he replied cheerfully, just as if nothing had happened or changed.

Natasha unnoticeably shrunk in her seat and directed her gaze outside the window. Her fingers tightly wound round each other in her lap and her lips settled into a small frown.

Why was he doing this to her? Only her.

Back at the school dorm, Natasha helped Clint into his room. She began to organize his belongings.

"You can leave them there. I'll pack them myself."

"It's fine, I can help you." Natasha said, not looking at Clint, while she placed his clothes back in the closet.

"No! I said I can do it myself." Clint snapped and yanked Natasha away from the closet, making her drop a few shirts in the process.

Natasha was stunned. Clint actually got physical this time.

After recovering from her shock, Natasha bent down to pick up the shirts.

"Don't you understand?! I don't need your help! Just leave me alone!" Clint yelled and snatched the clothes from Natasha's hands.

Tears began their escapade down Natasha's face.

"Clint, please, don't push me away. I really want to take care of you." Her voice quivered and she desperately grabbed his hands, to which he wrung away.

"You know what? You're just being damn annoying, like a pest that refuses to leave." He almost sneered. But in his heart, a crack seemed to have materialized in the chamber where his love for Natasha resided. Clint couldn't believe he had actually said that to her.

"Please...I beg you, don't do this." Natasha now cried harder, shaking her head slightly as the tears pooled at her chin and dripped off onto her shirt. She continued to stare longingly into Clint's eyes, searching for a spark of hope, of care, of love.

Clint's heart ached to see Natasha so miserable, and he almost relented. He almost couldn't hold back to urge to embrace her warmly and kiss her. No, he had to do what was best for the both of them, for her.

So he mustered all his courage, ignoring the growing crack in his heart, and spat out the words of venom.

"Your sympathy disgusts me."
