The next day, Clint invited Natasha for a stroll in the park.
As they moved down the pathway, with Natasha pushing Clint, he began to speak, his voice somewhat held hesitance.
"Natasha, I-I..."
"It's okay Clint, you can tell me anything." Natasha soothed, placing her hand on his shoulder.
"I thought of taking some time away...to sort out my thoughts and stuff." Clint became quieter.
"Away from...?" Natasha began carefully.
"You, us..."
Natasha didn't reply.
Clint reached up his hand to grab hers that was on his shoulder.
"I'll be coming back of course, and this has got nothing to do with you. It's just me, I feel I need time to do some thinking, so when I come back, I'll be able to love you even better. You know I love you too much to leave you forever."
He looked up at her, and saw her smiling back at him.
"I respect your decision." Natasha rubbed her thumb over his hand.
"Then let's treasure the time we spend together today, till we meet again." Clint pointed to the open field in the distance and Natasha pushed him towards there.
Along the pathway there, they came across a small cart selling bubble solution. A few children were crowded around there, waving dollar notes at the man mending the stall. The cheery man accepted the notes and presented them with the bubble solution in colourful bottles. The children cheered and ran off.
As if their minds were in sync, Natasha and Clint looked towards each other and smiled.
Natasha went up to the man and purchased a bottle. The man peered behind her, saw Clint, and waved at him with a beam on his face.
Clint waved back just as cheerfully as Natasha walked back to him.
They then went to the open field. Natasha helped Clint off his wheelchair and they both sat down in the middle on the carpet of green grass.
Natasha leaned on Clint's shoulder while he wrapped an arm round her. She unscrewed the cap of the bottle of bubble solution and began blowing. A cluster of bubbles drifted upwards into the azure sky.
With sunlight reflecting at different angles, the bubbles were a kaleidoscope of colour. It was beautiful.
Natasha held the stick in front of Clint's mouth and urged him to blow. He did, and smiled gleefully at the explosion of bubbles.
"Blow a big one!" Natasha said excitedly.
Clint blew slowly and gently, allowing the bubble to grow, until it left the stick. It grew to the size of Natasha's palm.
Natasha gave a winsome smile and say back watching the giant bubble float up into the sky.
With half the bottle used, Natasha screwed on the cap and placed it beside her.
"I want to watch the clouds." She told Clint.
So he lay down with an arm behind his head and stretched out his other arm for her to lie on.
"That cloud looks like a tree." Natasha began and pointed to a cloud drifting by.
"I think that one kinda looks like a bird." This time it was Clint's turn.
"Look, that one looks just like you." Natasha giggled.
"Are you sure? I'm sure I look more handsome than that!" Clint chuckled along.
Half an hour later, Clint was still going on about what the clouds looked like when he realised that Natasha had grown very silent.
He turned his head and found her fast asleep. He laughed quietly to himself and smoothened her hair before placing a kiss on her forehead.
When the evening came, Natasha had woken up and they decided to head home.
As the sky reddened, sending the sun on its way home, the couple's simple and carefree day had come to an end.
Hand in hand, they approached the gate of the park with slow-paced footsteps.
They turned to each other, a concoction of feelings, a myriad of emotions in their eyes.
Clint kissed Natasha's hand and they both slowly slipped their hands out of each other's.
Palm to palm, finger to finger, fingertip to fingertip, till there was no more.
"I'll come back for you, Sweetheart."
With that, Clint wheeled himself out of the park and turned right before heading down the pavement, leaving Natasha still standing there.
She looked at her hand and tried to remember the way his had fitted to hers. The feeling, the warmth, how right it felt. Natasha hoped she would remember, until they met again.
That was the last Natasha saw of Clint.
He may be out of her sight, but never in forever out of her mind.
