Months went by, final exams had been dealt with, and the term was coming to an end.
The senior students had 2 weeks worth of fun filled activities before their graduation day.
There had been a friendly dodgeball tournament, a science fair, trips to places of interest. The much awaited-for prom night would take place after the graduation ceremony.
The day of the graduation ceremony saw parents excitedly gathered at the front lawn of the school in front of a make-shift stage.
Mr and Mrs Romanoff were already seated, unlike the other parents who preferred to socialize and compare their children's achievements. They had a bouquet of tulips prepared for Natasha, along with a little stuffed bear wearing the graduation hat and gown that they had picked out for Clint, knowing his parents couldn't be here.
The principal Mrs Rosswell went up the stage and approached the mic at the podium, announcing that the ceremony would start soon.
"Parents and distinguished guests, please take your seats as the ceremony will begin shortly." She said while smiling.
After a few speeches by Mrs Rosswell and members of the board of directors, the students, dressed in the graduation gown and mortarboard, lined up and went up the stage one by one to receive their certificate scrolls. The guest of honor went down the stage to present Clint his certificate and he couldn't help but feel a little self-conscious and apologetic.
Then came the prize giving segment. The students with outstanding academic achievements received prize money. Bruce was one of the recipients and Mr and Mrs Banner were very proud of him, so were his friends, especially his science bro who almost shed a few tears.
Steve and Thor were recognized and commended for their contribution to the basketball team.
When everyone thought that the ceremony had come to an end, Mrs Rosswell announced that there was one last award that they were giving out.
"This last award has just been introduced this year. The teachers and I have all agreed that the recipient truly deserves this award and recognition for his perseverance and courage." Mrs Rosswell began and clasped her hands together approvingly.
Everyone listened intently, curious who the awardee was.
"This student has displayed exceptional strength in overcoming an adversity in his life. He didn't give up, and with the encouragement of his friends, made excellent progress in his studies as well as in his area of pursuit - archery."
All their friends looked towards Clint. He looked confused. Natasha squatted down to Clint's level and held his hand, grinning at him.
"With utmost pleasure, I present this award to Clinton Francis Barton."
There was roaring applause. Natasha squealed and gestured for Clint to go to the front to receive his award. He was too stunned for words or to even move, and looked around in disbelief.
Natasha took it upon herself to wheel him to the front and accompany him in receiving the award.
Clint shook Mrs Rosswell's hand and accepted a gold-rimmed plague with his name engraved in intricate gold lettering from her.
A smile finally found their place on Clint's lips. Natasha took a step to the side to allow him to enjoy his moment of glory. She placed her hands behind her back and beamed in pride at her boyfriend.
Then Clint asked for the mic to speak.
"I couldn't have come this far without my supportive group of friends, so thank you." Clint looked over to his friends and they nodded with smiles.
