I wear the face,
With reds and whites painted,
I wear the nose,
The spongy fit in to uphold.
Uphold the smile I mean to bring,
Uphold the humour which tends to wear.
I try, making you laugh.
I try looking weird,
And yet making you feel
The very basic emotion,
Which uplifts us,
Makes sunshine in lives feel real.
Not that I am happy,
Not that I can always laugh,
But when I try to make the world,
A better place,
I make a better me.
And even when I am struck by lightening,
I laugh, not for you,
But for me,
'Cause the show never stops,
For the world,
For myself.
