*Tommy's POV*

I was propped up against the head of Adam's bed, leaning back into the wall. His head was resting in my lap, his body relaxed and curled up beside me as I stroked his hair. He had not wakened up since the ride home, and Eber had to carry him into his bed. Adam's parents were more or less my parents, you could say, at the time so I got the predictable talk about the fight at school. It was just a normal lecture about how fighting is bad and that I could've gotten hurt.

When the questions started coming though, I lied and said it was harassment, not getting into any details, and leaving the whole part out of how I went ballistic and beat the shit out of Charlie. I mean, he had a black eye, broken nose, a split lip, a huge bruise on his face along with probably a bunch of smaller ones on his arms and chest. And, I only had a fat lip. It could've been much worse on my part.

Adam's breathing was quiet and steady. I tried to match mine with his, attempting to relax myself. Everything from the day I met Adam had gone by so fast that I never really had the chance to just unwind and take a breath. For once, I was enjoying the silence that I was granted with. My eyelids were beginning to feel heavy. I scanned the room one more time.

My eyes focused on a particularly large canvas leaning against the wall that I had not noticed before. You could still see the shine over the thicker spots of acrylic paint, so I decided that it was relatively new.

It was a picture of a beach next to the swiftly rolling ocean, painted a beautiful cerulean blue color. A bright sunset was peeking over the waves in multiple orange, red, and yellow strokes. I looked farther across the picture and a dark silhouette of a person sitting in the sand caught my attention. They were facing the sea and were holding a guitar in their hands, a thin golden halo hanging around the edges.

I knew it wasn't, but I couldn't help but think of the figure as myself, the notes coming from my mind smoothly played with my fingers, the crisp ocean air blowing my hair delicately, the dimming sun glowing on the water.

A soft smile spread on my lips. It was truly amazing. Adam was truly amazing.

I finally closed my eyes with a quiet sigh. The gentle flapping of the flag outside of the room was surprisingly calming. My head lolled to the side and my hand fell from Adam's silky hair.

I wasn't sure how long I had been out for, but I awoken to a knock on the door sometime later. I straightened myself back up, being careful not to wake Adam, and rubbed my eyes.

"Uh, come in," I called. The door opened almost hesitantly, as if not to disturb something, and Rose poked her head through. She stood back up completely and opened the door wider and walked in, soon followed by Allyson.

Rose was carrying two steaming drinks in her hand and a relieved smile was on her face. They noticed Adam was not awake and tip-toed over to the bed. Rose came straight through but Allyson took her time and looked over the layout and awed at the pictures, similar to what I had done the first time I came in here.

I moved my feet over and patted the bed for them to sit on. Rose set down one drink on the bedside table and she handed the other one to me after a hug. I held it tight with two hands, the warm liquids heating my cold hands. A long breathe in and the aroma of the sweet coffee filled my nose.

"I got you two caramel upside down lattes with cream," Rose smiled. "I knew Adam likes them, so I figured you would too." She blushed faintly. I wrapped a free hand around her waist.

"Thank you." I was truly blessed to have found such a great friend.

We sat there for a few minutes, sharing my latte. When the cup finally came back to Rose she held it and played with the rim. I gave her a concerned look.
