*Adam's POV*
I just couldn't stand to see Tommy cry and be so hurt. I brought him up to my room, shut the door, and hugged him. He started to cry again in my shoulder and I held his head and rubbed his back, trying to soothe him.
"Shh, Tommy, everything is going to be fine," I whispered. He held me tighter.
"Thank you, Adam," he sniffed. I held him out and looked into his bloodshot eyes.
"Anytime. Now, let's get you cleaned up and I will let you borrow some of my clothes for a while." I smiled, trying to get him to feel safe here. It was a real shame that even at your own house you are scared of being beaten and harassed.
He weakly nodded and I grabbed some sweat pants and a loose T-shirt and I lead him into the bathroom. He pulled himself up on the counter and I got a damp towel and began to wipe off his smeared make-up. He seemed to have calmed down a lot so I thought I would lighten the mood by talking to him.
"So, about you playing guitar," I started, "do you take lessons?"
Tommy's eyes lit up just a bit and now looked at me when he spoke. "No, I taught myself."
"That's pretty cool," I smiled. He blushed a light pink. "If you're up for it, maybe we could write a song together. I mean, it doesn't have to be right away, but I think it would be really fun, and I would love to hear you play." I ran the cloth over his whole face caringly one last time and I handed him a dry towel to wipe the access water off.
"Yeah, I think that would be nice," he smiled back. Bringing his hands over his head stretching, he let out a long yawn and rubbed his eyes.
How adorable was he?
"Alright, you've had a long day. Do you want me to bring you to your bed?" I asked. He nodded and wrapped his arms sleepily around my neck. I picked him off the counter and carried him across the hall to my bedroom and set him down gently on the mattress.
I went to the bathroom again to get his pajamas, but when I came back I saw him curled up under the blankets sleeping in peace. I sighed, admiring how serene he seemed to be, and sat down on the bed next to him, petting his hair. I stayed there for a while, not wanting to leave his side, but eventually I would have to.
I stroked his cheek lightly and whispered, "I love you." As I walked out of the room, I could have sworn I heard someone say those word s back to me, but I turned around and Tommy was still sleeping. I must have imagined it. I stepped out and quietly shut the door behind me.
*Tommy's POV*
He said it; I heard him. He REALLY said it! He said he LOVED me!
"I love you," I echoed very faintly.
I knew he thought I was sleeping and he didn't think I heard him. I was just too happy to not say it back. I think he turned back at me once before slipping out and shutting the door behind him. Laying on his pillow, I breathed him in. I was smiling as I fell asleep.
'Fuck you, Stan.' I thought. 'Somebody DOES care.'
*Adam's POV*
I walked downstairs and sat next to my mom on the couch in the living room.
"Is he okay?" she asked.
"He will be," I replied. "He fell asleep so I was just going sleep out here when you guys go to bed."
"Do you like him?" she said as if it was a perfectly normal question.
It was pretty awkward with my dad around (even if he wasn't paying attention), even though he is just like my mom in that sense. "Yes." I twirled my hair with my fingers and stared at the television, not wanting to meet her look.
"Does he know that?"
I gave her a weird look. "I don't know?"
"Do you think it will be okay for him to stay here for a while then?"
"What do you mean?" I was honestly confused.
"I don't want it to mess up your relationship with him. I am not saying that it will, but it may make things a bit awkward." I tried to tell myself that I 'did nothing wrong' but now it didn't feel that way.
"Honey, I'm sure that everything will be fine between you too, but I don't want you to rush anything." I gripped my hair tighter.
She was going to go there, and I was already pissed at what she had already said. "I don't want a repeat of what happened last time with Charlie." She went there, and I blew it.
I was yelling at her loud enough to get my point across easily, but too quite to wake Tommy. "I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU WOULD THINK I WOULD LET THAT HAPPEN! DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH HE HURT ME MOM? I SAID TO NEVER BRING THAT UP AGAIN!" I ran upstairs again with tears in my eyes. I entered as quiet as I could and grabbed an extra blanket and pillow form my closet and situated myself on the floor next to my bed, eventually crying myself to sleep.
*Outside POV*
Adam's parents sat there, stunned and still.
"Leila," Eber finally said. "Did you really need to say that?"
"I just wanted him to know how I felt," she sighed.
"I know, but you know that he's sensitive over that subject. And you did let Tommy stay here with us, and I'm not objecting because I feel the same way you do, but with everything's that happened today, I think you scared him even more than he was." Leila looked disappointed in herself.
"Now when you get the chance, you should apologize but not today. Let him calm down and I'm sure he will understand." She smiled and he kissed her on the cheek as they went to their room and went to bed.

Adam tossed and turned on the ground. "No," he mumbled in his sleep. "Stop it!"
-Slap. "I asked you; do you love me?" Adam couldn't lie anymore. He shook his head.
"That's what I thought! And that is exactly why I am leaving your sorry ass." He gave him another hard slap to the face making Adam curl up on the ground sobbing.
'I thought you loved me. What about all this time we spent together?' He wanted to shout it out to him, but in fear that he would hurt him even more he cowered and kept his mouth shut.
Charlie would eventually leave him there for someone else to deal with. Adam told himself that night that everything Charlie did was because Adam was wrong and he did it out of love. For a while he convinced himself that Charlie never hit him or laid a bad finger on him. -
He forgot about it until someone brought something up that triggered a nerve or said his name. That night, his mom did both.
That night the nightmare was relived.
