*Tommy's POV*
-Sunset Fall, South Carolina-
I was starting to get really restless in my seat, shifting positions and following everything that passed with my eyes. We were away from the highway, the big cities, and now we were coming along the coast. Adam had told me that this place was pretty remote and private compared to most beaches, and it was on an overhang of the ocean, which was very unusual. But, that is the main reason they go there, because of the uniqueness.
Adam must have noticed my anxiousness, for he took a hold of my hand. As a response I looked over at him, smiling smugly.
"Almost there," he chuckled. "It's at the crown on this hill." I sighed, crossed my legs and sat back in my seat, looking out the window once again.
He gave my hand a squeeze and I turned back to him with my eyebrows raised. "Don't," he said.
"Don't what?" I asked.
"I want your first sight of the ocean to be special, and you'll see it if you look now," he smiled sweetly. The tone of his voice suggested that he already has something planned, and his eyes silently pleaded me to obey. Not like I was going to say no anyway.
"Okay," I smiled back. I glanced around the inside of the vehicle. Leila and Eber were chatting, Adam had his book, and Neil was playing his PSP.
One day, when I knew my mom and Stan wouldn't be at home because of some annual party they get drunk at, Eber took me to my old house to grab everything that I could manage, which wasn't much, since I had to buy everything for myself except necessities. I had enough clothes to get by and still look good. The only thing I was missing was something to keep me occupied at times like this. But nevertheless, I was still happier than ever.
I awkwardly trained my eyes to stay away from the glass, finally fixing on our laced fingers. After a moment's pause, I spoke again. "What exactly is going to be so special?"
Adam set his bookmark in with his free hand and shut the book. His eyes sparkled when he caught mine. "That's a surprise."
I could hear the gravel crunching beneath the Escalade as we turned left.
"But I hate surprises!" I pouted. It wasn't a complete lie. I didn't like not knowing what I was going to do, but I did like how special you feel when you know someone put so much thought into something for you.
"I know it will be worth it," he promised. I sighed and left it at that. On the outside, I was collected and calm. On the inside, on the other hand, I was jittery with excitement. Everything in me knew that I was going to have the best time of my life this week, and I had no doubt that Adam's surprise was going to be worth it.
It was a challenge not looking out the window, but I managed. Eber pulled up driveway, checked in, and we were soon heading our way to our site. Adam tapped my hand with his finger then nodded his head outside the car, gesturing for me to look finally.
My eyes darted to get a look and I rolled down the window. From where we were the beach wasn't noticeable by sight, but you could definitely smell it. As we drove, we passed other families taking a vacation here; a few on permanent lots, the majority ready and settled, and some were still setting up. The front sites were close together, but as we reared the back, they were more spacious and secluded.
The car veered right, and Adam slid into me since he was unbuckled. Taking his perfect chance, he stole a kiss. He just smirked and I rolled my eyes playfully at him. A minute passed, and he glanced over my shoulder.
"Look," he said. I turned my head and I gasped softly. The Escalade pulled to a halt, right beneath stunning Sunset Falls.
The water shimmered as it flowed swiftly over the smoothed rocks. The lake below it was so clear I could see schools of small fish swimming carelessly, even from this distance. Neil opened his door, soon followed by the parents. I was still staring in awe, so Adam chuckled, bent across me, and opened my door.
