*Adam's POV*
-Sunday driving to Sunset Falls, South Carolina-
A 15 hour car ride to Sunset Falls from my house in Little Rock would usually bother me. Usually. Definitely not today.
So, first, we had to borrow my uncle's white Cadillac Escalade because we wouldn't fit in one car. And that meant that Tommy and I got the very back seat to us (upon request) and Neil sat in the middle row of seats. Second, this place is just beautiful. The actual Sunset Falls is right above our site and in the morning, it casts a rainbow that stretches across the lake that it flows into.
Pretty much everything is in walking distance; to the beach is around 15 minutes, the indoor pool is about the same in the other direction, arcade is a half-hour away, plaza right next to it, and there are multiple gazebos and outlooks that overlook the Atlantic Ocean. To top it off, all of the campsites are spread wide enough that as long as you stayed within your site limits, you could possibly go the whole trip without running into someone.
I mean, it's not like we wouldn't go out and do stuff, but its nice privacy. In my opinion, that is the best thing about this place. I love my alone time, but what's even better than that is spending time with someone who really means something to me. And thirdly, I get to do just that. With my Tommy.
I sighed in content and pulled Tommy closer with my arm. I was leaning against the side of the car and he was leaning against me with his head resting snugly under my chin. Neil was sleeping, so we didn't hear anything from him, and my mom was asleep, too. My dad was silently and attentively driving us down I-20 in the dark. We were all just tired.
It was only 5 in the morning and we had left two hours ago. Leaving even that early meant we would get there after six (with the time change), and that's not adding the pit stops and eating.
The blonde shifted and his fringe sprouted by my nose. Trying not to disturb him too much, I just shook my head and attempted to get the hair away. It back fired and only made the tickle worse. I turned my head towards the window.
He lifted off of me just in time to see me pathetically sneeze my high pitched, tiny, sorry excuse for a sneeze. It kind of sounded like an outgoing hiccup. To make it worse, my nose twitched after it like a rabbit. Tommy bit his lip and struggled to suppress his laughter. I could feel my cheeks flame a delicate red. I looked back at the window to hide my embarrassment.
"What was that?" he asked between bursts of chuckles. His smirk was growing, but at least he was trying to force it back.
I glanced back at him. "What?" I said sheepishly.
"What the hell was that sneeze? Are you part mouse or something?" He tapped my nose with his finger. "I never thought such a noise could come from you...let alone a boy." A laugh finally broke free and he put his mouth on my shoulder to muffle it out from being too loud. I pushed him away from me and stared at him seriously.
"That was mean," I whined. I tried to keep a straight face but it was challenging; Tommy's hair started to frail out in different directions from throwing his head back, a grin was painted wide across his face, he was rocking back and forth, and he started to take little gasps to catch his breath. I just couldn't help but smile; seeing him this happy was rare, but every time it happens it's like floating in a cloud of bliss and I am just as jubilant as he is.
I furrowed my eyebrows at him and pouted.
He started to take even, steady breaths. Once he was calm he spoke again, but not before stealing a glance at my lips.
"Okay, I'm sorry," he apologized. "I couldn't help it. It was..." he broke off, looking for the right word. He switched between my eyes and lips a few times. I blushed again and a smile turned my mouth up. "Plainly adorable," he finished.
I took my body away from the window and leant towards him. He smirked and bent forwards. Our lips flushed against each others in a brief kiss. I pulled away and he again propped himself against me. I brushed his hair from my face, making sure not to repeat what happened last time.
"All done now?" I chuckled as he got comfy.
"Mhm," he mumbled. I wrapped my arm around him like we were before. A moment after, I swear, it was like he was purring.
I bit my lip in a smile. I just had to do it-it was my perfect chance...
"Are you part cat or something?" I mimicked. I raised my voice a little bit higher to emphasize my previous annoyance, "I never thought such a noise could come from you, let alone a boy." He rolled his eyes and poked a finger into my chest. "I'm sorry, I couldn't help it. It was plainly adorable."
He lifted his head to look me in the eye. "Do you remember everything I say?" he questioned cockily.
I smiled as sweetly and as innocently as I could. "Exactly as you say it, darling."
Ignoring my joke, he raised his eyebrows. "You know that's kinda stalker-ish."
I shrugged. "Better get used to it, you gotta spend a whole week with me with nowhere to escape." I glanced at the ceiling then back at him. "Come to think of it, it's kinda kidnapper-ish too. Except, you were a willing captive." I gave my best sinister voice and a devious grin.
"You truly are one-of-a-kind, Adam," he muttered. "Only you can make a sentence that was so creepy seem so...so...not?"
"Tommy Joe Ratliff can't think of what to say," I replied smugly. "You must be right about me then."
He snorted. "Get over yourself!" he exclaimed. Neil twisted in and groaned agitatedly in his sleep. We both glanced over and lowered our voices.
"Come on, I was only joking," I protested. I put on my puppy eyes and I saw him melt a bit. Oh, and he thought he could win this battle.
He sighed in defeat. "Alright, I'm done. And I'm tired," he yawned, stretched his arms above his head and arched his back. Part cat indeed.
He looked at me through one eye while he rubbed the other. "Lay down," he ordered like a stubborn little kid. I complied and positioned myself so that he would be comfortable resting on me. Once he was done situating himself he took a deep breath in a snuggled his face in my chest.
"Good?" I asked him.
"Perfect," he whispered.
My eyelids soon felt heavy and I found myself being swallowed into the darkness of peaceful sleep.
