*Adam's POV*
When Tommy told me about Collin and that no one has ever stood up for him, it broke my heart. I couldn't stand seeing him hurt. I need to do something big to show him that I will always be there for him and show him that I really like him.
Little did I know, my answer was lying straight ahead...
-Eighth period: art-
We walked into the art room together. He sat down and I took a seat next to him. The teacher, Mrs. Dawn, began drawing a simple outline of a person's face. She spoke while showing the class areas to focus on. "Now, we will start off by drawing a portrait of someone including a background that reveals a message through emotion." she stated, then gave us the criteria of the project.
"It can be of a real person or someone you choose to make up. Three major areas that I will be looking at are distance of features, how you incorporated the background with the person, and how the emotions are expressed." She then went on about how she would be grading them, for example, for the distance the eyes should be relatively in the center of the height of the head and the nose should be in the center of the width. The basics.
"These will be due on Friday at the beginning of class. You are free to talk as long as you work," she finished. She headed to her desk and I pulled out my art pouch, spreading all of the contents of it onto the table.
I noticed Tommy watching me intently. "What are those for?" he asked me with curiosity. He was pointing to a white thing that looked similar to a rolled up paper towel with a point.
"Oh, those are for smoothing out the lines and adding a more realistic look." I loved to draw and had a bunch of stuff for it. My room was filled with scraps and scribbles of my latest works.
"Huh," he said and I handed him a piece of paper for him to use. His chocolate eyes began to look over the many pencils, looking for one to choose. I handed him a mechanical pencil.
"I always use it first. It makes light or dark thin lines," I said. He smiled and tapped it on his chin.
As I was watching him, a huge idea hit me. I will draw him! It's perfect! I can make it so he knows I like him and I can get an 'A' on it too! I immediately leant forward and stared an outline. I had to keep looking at him, noticing another detail of his face, another story to be solved.
"So who are you drawing?"
I was surprised in the sudden break of silence and was caught off guard. He stretched his neck to see what I had done. I had gotten the outline of his hair, and if you looked, you could tell it was him.
"Oh, uh," I stuttered, shielding the paper by crossing my arms over it.
"It's a surprise." I meant to put on a smirk, but I could tell that it was a dorky grin by the way Tommy was trying to hold back a laugh. My face must have been really red because it was burning. I had to change the subject.
"So," I started, but never finished. Real smooth.
"Yeah?" he edged on.
"Uh," I swallowed hard, collecting thoughts. "Do you want to come over my house after school?" Not the best or worst thing to say.
Hopefully it didn't scare him off. He looked away, and then returned my look with his own.
"Yeah, sounds good," he smiled. I took out the piece of paper with his address on it.
"What's your cell-phone number?" I asked, preparing to write it down.
"555-0632." He said. "When should I come over?"
"Whenever you want to," I began. "My parents will be home all night so you can stay late too. They are always trying to get me to bring friends home." Tommy radiated happiness and smiled.
I continued, "How about I just take us to my house after school is over?" I started working on the project again.
He still smiled but when I looked into his eyes, they showed discomfort.
"I think that will be okay with my stepdad," he said, his eyes trailing off into the distance.
"I'm so happy I met you, Tommy." I could tell he was getting more comfortable with me and he replied quicker and easier the more I talked to him.
"Me too," the blonde whispered with a twinkle in his eye. He made me so warm inside. The corners of my lips turned up.
That smile would never leave my face.
