I still remember the day I left my mother. I was sad, terrified and scared. All I had left was the words she told me when I was small 'Race With the Wind' I never forgot. I don't have a name yet. I'm usually called 'Filly' or 'Girly'. The two lamest names one human could think of.
I'm on my way to my new home now. I hope I'm lucky. A teenage girl and her father bought me. I'm in a big red 8 horse, horse carrier. They're very good at driving I'm not falling over the place every time we go around a corner or stop its very relaxing. I start to doze off.The horse carrier comes to a stop. I think I've arrived at my new home. I hear the bang of the doors of the carrier closing. I also hear the faint footsteps walking to the back of the carrier. I hear the clitter and clatter of the steel latches being unlock and opened. As the ramp lowers the bright blinding light entering the carrier strains my eyes. Once the ramp is lowered a girl walks in she has perfect straight blonde hair tide tightly into a pony tail. She has very bright, kind looking blue eyes. She is wearing a red t-shirt and blue jeans. 'Here we are girl. Welcome to your new home.I hope you make friends and you enjoy yourself' she says softly with a kind, caring voice. I already like her.
Its the next day in my new home. I'm in my new clean stable. I was given a stable rug to for the night. The girl showed up again. I also found out what her name was. Her name was Sarah. She walked calmly into my stable with a headcollar and leadrope in her hands. She put the headcollar on and clipped the leadrope onto it. She took me out and started to groom me. Sarah clearly says to me 'I really need to give you a name'. Yes please! ' How about... Star or... I don't know lets see how about I ride you ride first!'. Yay! I'm actually going out for a ride I cant wait.
After about 10 minutes of grooming time I was tacked up and ready to go. I had a really comfortable racing saddle on and bridle with a snaffle bit. I really like chewing snaffle bits they're very soft in my mouth. Sarah hopped on my back and landed nice and lightly in the saddle.
We walked into a big sand racing track. 'Okay girl lets see if you can gallop three miles on the flat' Sarah excitedly says. She has me circling at the top of the track. I am so excited by now, waiting for my signal. I know its time to gallop now because Sarah is giving me a centimetre of rein and she is sitting heavy in the saddle. GOO!! I'm off galloping like any other horse. I'm loving every single second of this. The wind hitting my face and my mane flapping in it. It feels wonderful. I can feel Sarah shouting 'Woohoo! On my back. She is loving this. We gallop past the 800 metre line. Sarah gives me more rein and urges me on to move faster and I do. We gallop past the finish. I feel Sarah pitting her weight back in the saddle. I have to sadly stop now. I can see Sarah's face beaming with joy. 'You know what. I'm going to call you Scooter'. Sarah says proud of the name she picked. She should be proud because I love my new name. Scooter. Scooter. I have a name now. Thank God.
After our gallop Sarah gives me wash and sticks a sweat rug on me for the night. 'Good night Scooter'. Sarah says softly. She plants a kiss on my white star. I love my new home and tomorrow I will try to make new friends.
