Chapter 33

We gallop towards a big gate. The gate has sharp spikes on the top. It is locked. A jeep stands in front of the gate. Mr.Hughes hops out. ''You may have taken out all of my lads but, not me''. He says smiling. I see a knife glint in his pocket. Since when did all of this get so gruesome. Since when did we end up taking out all of those men. They are wanted bad guys. I hear Sarah curse under her breath. There is only one way out. To jump.

Sarah wraps her fingers around my mane. She gulps. ''You fool! You have to learn to let them go! Get over it! She's dead!''. Mr.Hughes shouts. Sarah growls. I paw on the ground. ''You are a heartless ass!''. Sarah shouts. ''I have a dream of at least to race in the Grand National. Can't you let that happen to a girl that could loose everything!''. She shouts. She hops off of my back. I get worried. I see the knife. She walks over to him. ''Let us go. I will keep this whole incident between us''. She says softly. ''Never trust anyone''. He says coldly. He grabs Sarah. I neigh. Sarah fights and he has the knife. I start to gallop towards them but then in the blink of an eye Boo jumps out of the bushes and she hits Mr.Hughes on his leg with her foot. He screams in pain. Boo shows anger. Sarah grabs the knife and throws it over the gates. ''Get out of here now Boo! When the police come show yourself!''. I order. Boo nods and gallops off into the darkness. Sarah is on her phone. She is talking to Leona. ''We are in the park now''. She says and hangs up. She turns around and screams. ''Scooter!'', I look behind me to see Mr.Hughes behind holding a tranquilliser. I look at him in horror. I rear up and turn on my heels to face him. I land with a thud. I close my eyes accepting the tranquilliser. I feel the needle get closer to my flesh. I open my eyes and I grab the needle with my mouth and I toss it to Sarah. Mr.Hughes stares at me. I never knew there can be such bad in this world. I hear something in the woods. It's his men! I hit Mr.Hughes and gallop to Sarah. I'm not leaving her here. She sings on my back. I look at the gate. I gallop towards the men and we smash through them. They gallop to Mr.Hughes. We stop. I turn around and stare at the gate. I close my eyes. This gate could kill if I get one step wrong. I remember the jeep and smirk. Or maybe I could use a hand. Sarah mutters to herself. ''Oh no''. She whispers. I have my eyes closed. I feels Sarah wrap her fingers around my mane. She still has the hurl with her.

We stand for about a minute. I need to take my time. I have never jumped anything like this before. It's the only way to get Sarah away from these killers. Sarah grips with her legs and sits low. She's ready. I open my eyes and leap into a gallop. We gallop to the gate. My feet thudding the stones. We get closer and closer to the jeep and gate. Sarah shows fear but I feel hope. We approach the jeep at a flat gallop. I take off. I jump onto the jeep's bonnet and up onto the roof. I take one stride and I push with my hindlegs. I soar over the gates. I lift my feet high. The ground is far below us. Sarah sits in her jumping position. Gripping with her legs and hands to stay on. I feel my hindlegs clear the spikes and I prepare to land. I lift my head up for balance and bring my front feet out. The landing feels like it lasting a lifetime. I feel myself worry. The ground doesn't look good underneath us. I prepare. I lock my front legs and bring my hindlegs forward. I land with a grunt and a big thud. It was a very uncomfortable landing. We were landing right on the road. I feel my legs take in the impact as we trot away from the gate. It is very sore. I pant and grunt. Sarah hops off and looks at my legs. She feels them. We then look over at Mr.Hughes and his gang. The police were coming. I see helicopters too. The men were ascending down on ropes. They take the gang. They grab Mr.Hughes and he gave them the key. This man deserves this. Sarah leans on me. She closes her eyes. ''I almost lost you back there. You almost lost me. You came back for me. You are the best friend I have ever had''. Sarah says softly. The police race over to us and ask Sarah for questions. She tells them about me being euthanised when I'm fine. She tells them about him treating her like an enemy. She tells them about the park chase. She tells them about her mother too. The police congratulate her. They pat me too. ''Well done Miss Doherty. We will take him away for questions. He will be charge for the cruelty towards our animals. All the horses here in this 'clinic' will go to new homes''. The policeman says shaking Sarah's hand. He looks over at me. ''That is one strong mare. I've never seen such a strong bond between horse and rider''. He says stroking me. He tips the point of his cap and walks to his investigators. Leona races up to Sarah. She hugs her. Sarah tells her everything. ''I bet ya he was giving The Sky Princess something. Did you not see how muscly and high strung she was. She was obviously on steroids''. Sarah says quietly. Leona looks over at the police. ''Are you going to tell them''. Leona asks quietly. Sarah smirks. ''Pfft! Of course not. I still have to clean up the trash by showing Miranda I'm a good rider with the best horse''. Sarah says looking over at me.

I'm lead into a trailer the police brought for the horses. It is a very big trailer. It connects up with a big police high lux. Boo is beside me with all of the other horses. ''Thank you''. I say to her. ''For what?''. She says confused. ''You saved Sarah. Thank you. I hope you get a good home''. I say smiling. She smiles back. ''Just be a good horse and remember. My mother always told me let them touch you and treat them the way they treat you''. I say. My mother told me that when I wouldn't let my old owners touch me. They treated me like I was special after that. ''Thanks Scooter and by the way, win that race''. She says slowly as she falls asleep. I nod my head. ''I will''. I whisper and I close my eyes. I let the rocking of the trailer help me to fall asleep. We are finally going home.
