The next few days were hard. We trained and trained. We done stamina work. We jumped. We practice impulsion. Flatwork. We raced around the track. I have improved a lot. I really feel it. I also feel the pain in my muscles. I wake up and I try to get up. My muscles ache. I wince in pain. After about a few seconds of trying to get up off of the warm straw bed, I look around the stables. Everyone I think is still asleep. I never looked around the stables much. I see a door down the left to me. I look at it. It looks like no one never enters it. The door knob is rusty and old. I look at it the door much more. I concentrate on it, wondering what is in it. ''No one goes in there''. I turn around and I see Glic, who is also staring at the door. ''Only Sarah. Her mother used to too. Gosh that woman was a stunning rider. She brightened up the place too. Everyday ended with a laugh. She had a string connection with horses. She was stunning. Her horse just...misplaced his landing. She was in crucial condition. She wasn't strong enough though. She just left. Gave up. She died a day later. She was broke. Faith just walked out of the door. Faith didn't leave her. It also left the people around her. No one believes anymore. But Sarah. She really reminds me of her''. Glic says quietly. I look at Glic. Then that question hits my mind. ''What's her name?''. I ask. I don't mean to be nosey but, I have to know. ''Her name was Elizabeth. We all called her Lizzie. She had short brown/blonde hair. It was a bit curly. She was a tall thin woman. Always wore a smile on her face''. Glic answers with a chuckle. I nod. Poor Sarah. Poor Sean. I feel bad for their father too. ''Does Sarah have any other siblings?''. I ask. ''Yes. A sister. No interest in us though. She used too. She would ride and ride. She left though. Hit Dublin city. She lives there with her boyfriend. She goes to Trinity College. She's training to be a nurse. She looks like Sarah. She's just...different. Opposite to Sarah. Girly. Very girly. Her name is Amanda''. Glic explains. I nod. I look over at the door. I hear footsteps. I see Sarah walking into the stables. She is quiet. She walks into the room. She comes out with two little booklets. She walks over to me. ''It's about time we see who your mother and father is. Well. We know Destination is your father. Very pretty horse. Races like lightning. Your mother. Lets find out''. She says excited. She opens the booklet. She reads my passport. I see a smile turn into a straight face. ''What?! No! Oh god no!''. She says. I look at her worried. She looks at me. I see tears. ''Oh Scooter! I should have known. You're mother is Dawn Run. Her name is Blaze''. I nod in confusion. Why are you crying? ''Scooter. She's dead. She died two months ago''. I felt the world freeze. ''Scooter. Say something now!''. Glic says. Sarah picks up a newspaper article. She shows me.
The Irish Independent
DAWN RUN WILL BE MISSEDI stare at the paper. The coloured picture of my mother. She is jumping over a steeplechase hurdle. No! No! Sarah opens the door of my stable. She walks in. ''I know Scooter. I feel it too. You're not the only one. Please sweetie. Will you continue to race with me?''. She says. She stands back. I see the door open. ''Go think about it. Get some air''. I race out. I gallop and gallop. I jump over the fence of the field. I continue to run. The wind hitting my back. I gallop up to the back fence of the field. The little opening has been fixed. I jump over the fence. I race up the forest hill.
I reach the cliffside. I stop. I take a breath. I close my eyes. My mother is dead! Dead! Dead! Why am I a racehorse! Why do we have to go through this?! We don't know when our life will end! I open my eyes. I take a deep breath and I neigh. I neigh so loud that it echoes. I rear up onto my hindlegs. I let out another long neigh. I mourn for my mother. I should be dead. I should be the one to die. Not my beautiful mother.
I look over beyond the valley. I've been here so long that it is now becoming sunset. The sky is bright. The purple/pink colours meet. The clouds move slowly. I stand there until the sun is not to be seen. The stars appear. I look up into the sky. I look at the North Star. My mother told me about it. Thinking about my mother makes me angry and sad. ''Why!? Why!? Why is life like this! Mother! Why!? I wanted to see you one more time! Just once! Why you!''. I shout. I look down and close my eyes. ''Please. One more time''. I whisper. I hear the whispering. It's my mother. ''My sweet Scooter. I wanted to see you one more time too. I'm sorry sweetie. They promised me that I would see you after the race in the Curragh. That was my last race before I retired. I landed wrong. I fell on my neck. I felt no pain. I thought about you. I fought and fought. They said no. I will not make it. They decided to put me down. I'm sorry Scooter. Remember that I'm here for you. This is the last time Scooter that I will talk to you. Thank you for being a daughter that any proud mother would want. You were all over the news sweetie. I love you. You didn't break our promise. Scooter. Goodbye and also. Race With the Wind''. She whispers. My beautiful mother. I love you. I will miss you. I will listen to you. I open my eyes.''Dawn Run! I will Race With the Wind! You hear me world! I am Destination S. I will not be afraid anymore! Ya's hear me!''. I shout. I close my eyes. ''I will do anything to show you what I can do. Mother. They say I am small but mighty''. I whisper. I look up. I feel the breeze hit me. It hits my face with blast. My mane and tail flows. I stand tall. I'm proud for who I am. I am Destination S. I will continue racing, no matter who or what gets in my way.
