We arrive through the gates of Dolanstown Stud. Sarah leads Kandy and I to the field. She lets Kandy out. Kandy trots over to Cara, who doesn't look happy. Sarah looks at me kindly and tired. ''I really would like to know what crap you horses think about?''. Sarah chuckles. ''We will win next time girl''. She says confidently. She kisses my white star and lets me out into the field. As soon as Sarah left I started bucking and pawing the ground. Grrrrr! I can't believe I lost. I walked over to the one of the old trees and I started kicking the living daylights out of it. ''I can't believe I lost! I'm so fricken-''. Nope I'm not saying that word. Don't say it. ''Say it!''. I look up to seeing Sir. ''Say it! You're so fricken pissed!''. He says to me. ''No, my mam told that word isn't nice''. I say innocently. ''Ah! Come Scooter? We're all adults here. Now, say it''. He says. ''Fine. I'm so fricken..... pissed''. I say very quietly. ''Say it, louder''. Sir says. ''Ugh! I'm so fricken pissed!''. I shout. ''That's more like it. Don't be afraid to say what you think. You're pissed. I understand. I am too. All that training for nothing. You need to recover more quickly. Jesus Scooter, you weren't even trying! You would have won her more easily!''. He says frustrated. ''I know...its just. There was something weird about her. She was all sweaty and she developed a lot of muscle quickly. She is usually calm before a race. There was fear in her eyes''. I say shyly. ''Hmm. I don't know. She's probably been given a bit more oats than usual''. He answers. ''It does happen when a horse's diet is changed to be given more food than the usual''. He adds. I just nod. ''Do I need more oats?''. I ask. ''No, no, no, you have enough fuel in your engine''. He chuckles. I chuckle too. I see Glic walk over to us. ''What's with all the language?''. She asks. ''He told me too!''. I shout and I gallop down the other end of the field, leaving Sir to deal with Glic alone. That's what he gets. Payback!
Sarah takes us all in for the night. She gives us our hot mash and hay. I make my bed more comfortable to lie down on. I learned more about Kandy. I learned that Cara isn't her mother. Cara is basically a horse that the foal tries to hang out with. Kandy also told me that Leona raised her. Kandy is basically a rescue foal. Leona took her in and raised her as her own. Kandy wanted a friend to hang out with so she hangs out with Cara. She said Cara can be quite grumpy on some days, but Cara does care about the little cheeky foal. I wonder what Cara thought about the foal gone all day without her knowing? I guess very annoyed or very worried. Maybe even both. I doze off. I dream about my mother. I wonder how she's doing?
I wake up the next morning very stiff. My knees really hurt. Leona does some special equine massage. She rubs my back, neck and knees, using a vibrating machine. It feels very nice. I feel more loose after it. ''Sarah told me that we are doing The Curragh Races. We have to make sure that you're fit and healthy. This special massage should help you recover in two days. Sarah said you have to be in condition so we can start to train you immediately''. Leona explains. Grand. I'm just glad that I'm getting a massage. Leona puts me out in the field. She also told me that Sarah is gone off for three days. Leona said that I'm staying in the field tonight. All the other horses are too. I graze with Glic and Sam.
It is a very clear sky tonight. I look up at all the twinkling stars. I look beyond the fences of the field. I see a light. It's not the usual electric light. It's a blue- white light. I stare at the light. The light looks like a figure. Curiosity hits me. I start to walk towards the light. I see a girl or a woman. I can't tell. The figure disappears when I was ten metres away from it. There's an opening in the fence. I walk through the opening. I look right and when I look left, I see the light shining from the forest. There's a dirt track going through the forest. I trot to light. I see the figure and the figure walks up the forest's hill. I walk behind the figure keeping my distance. I reach the top of the hill and I notice that the figure is at the edge of a cliff. I stop when I reach the top of the hill. I see a clear image of the figure. It is a young woman. She has brown blond hair and blue eyes. She reminds me of Sarah. The woman is smiling at me. I stare back at her. ''Protect her, Scooter. No, matter what gets in your way. Take risks''. She whispers softly to me. It's Sarah's mother. What does she mean? I have to take a risk to protect Sarah. Something is also going to get in my way. The woman walks down the hill leaving me here on the cliff. I look up ahead of me. I breathe slowly. Thinking of what just happened. I close my eyes. I feel a strong breeze hit my face. ''Scooter''. I open my eyes to the voice that just spoke. What is going on? I have to be dreaming. Obviously a message was sent to me. About what? My future? Sarah's future? My mother's future? I'm just seen a spirit? I heard a voice too. That voice sounded very familiar to me. That voice is the voice that I always dreamt of hearing when I left. That voice was my mother's voice. But how? I stare into the night sky confused.
