"Fuck! En, talon!"
Hindi na nag-aksaya ng oras si Enfys. Hindi na siya nagtanong. She trusted her friend with her life, so she jumped with no hesitation.
Mula sa mataas na sanga ng punong hinihigaan niya kanina, bumagsak siya nang pagulong. She winced but quickly stood, sprinting away just before the tree exploded behind her, the blast echoing through the clearing.
Maluwag ang naging paghinga niya.
There it was again, that feeling. Parang may nanlalaro sa kanya. Like fate was pulling a prank she wasn't in on. She had been managing her speja well, pero bakit parang lagi pa rin siyang nawawala sa kasalukuyan?
Sefarina greeted her with a warm smile on her face. "Congrats for being alive, my friend!" She even clapped her hands to congratulate her.
"I feel loved." Puno ng sarkasmo niyang sabi.
"Huh? Hindi pa ba? Hasn't he told you yet?" Kumunot naman ang noo ni Enfys kaya napangisi ng hilaw si Sefarina. "I won't tell you. My mouth is sealed."
She then whispered. "Omygod, he's so slow! I can't believe he's my friend!"
Enfys raised a brow, about to demand an explanation, pero kumaway na lang si Sefarina at naglakad palayo as if nothing happened.
She jogged to catch up, her fingers fixing her windswept hair. "We've returned, but I don't feel welcome," mahina niyang bulong habang tuloy-tuloy ang lakad, hindi lumilingon.
Sefarina linked arms with her, lifting her chin as if immune to the stares of students lining the halls.
"Don't mind them. They're just bored. Like me," she said, voice laced with the kind of restlessness only someone like her could carry.
Apat na buwan silang wala.
Hindi lang ang consiglio ang nagpadala sa kanila sa mga misyon dahil unti-unti na ring nakikialam ang cinco. Mula nang tumulong ang mga ito sa digmaan, naging mas malawak ang saklaw ng kapangyarihan nila sa loob ng academy.
Noong unang buwan, they thought they will only retrieve a missing blueprint. Pero pagkadating sa Hanada, may biglaang utos na linisin ang buong lugar, something they didn't expect.
The following month, pinadala naman ang mga lalaki sa Zetril para patayin ang mga hayop sa Mellowcorpse, mga nilalang na akala nilang matagal nang wala.
Doon nakuha ni Azalaura ang gamot na ginamit sa demi-gods at nilalang ng underworld, mga halimaw na muntik na nilang ikamatay.
They were supposed to return safely... but half a month passed. Wala pa rin silang balita.
Samantala, silang apat na natira—Enfys, Luna, Iraia, at Sefarina—pinadala sa apat na kaharian para magdala ng mensahe. They didn't even know para saan.
Weeks passed without any of them seeing each other. Ang alam lang nila, sunod-sunod ang pagsasanay, sunod-sunod na misyon.
Enfys stayed in Hanada. Iraia in Renvela. Sefarina in Olympus. Luna in Zetril.
