Chapter 1 ~ Scarlett

Imagine a life of being hunted to the brink of extinction. Each day a new challenge presents itself in a new and lethal way.

I sat on the dusty couch reading an old book of lore until my housemate, Ajax, snatched the book from my hands. She inspected it for a moment before handing it back to me. "You know that this stuff is bullshit right?" she said.

I looked at her with a frown and closed the book. "So what," I said. "It's interesting."

"Well," she said, placing her hands on her hips. "if you want to know more about our race, just ask. I have some stuff that you can look into." I gave her a look of annoyance.

"Maybe I just wanted to read something interesting."

Lily popped her head through the doorway before and more words were said. "Interesting? What's interesting?"

Ajax and I both turned to look at her. "My book," I said and held it up.

Lily nodded, seeming interested but satisfied with the answer I had given, then disappeared from view. Ajax and I turned back to face each other before she shrugged and plopped down on the couch next to me. "Well that was interesting," she said. I nodded in agreement.

The air between us was quiet as we sat on the couch refusing to meet each other's gaze. I opened my mouth to attempt at a different conversation, but a shout cut me off instead. "Oh my gosh!" Lily yelled from her bedroom upstairs.

Ajax was the first one to her feet as she darted across the space between us and the doorway to the staircase. I threw my book to the side and quickly followed close behind. When we reached Lily's room, the door was already open making it easier for us to see the stupid grin that hung from her lips as she gazed helplessly at the laptop on her bed.

"What the hell, man?" Ajax sighed. "I thought you were dying or something."

I leaned in and whispered in her ear. "I think she did die. Look at that ugly look she has on her face."

Lily's head snapped towards us. "Well excuse me for stumbling across this masterpiece of a man!" she exclaimed, turning the laptop around and showing us a picture of the one and only Niall Horan. Ajax and I both gave her a look. "No no no. Don't you dare look at me like that. I know for a fact that you would've done the exact same thing if you saw a picture of Kendall Schmidt. Hmm, Ajax? Oh! And don't even get me started about Harry Styles, Scarlett."

I sighed in defeat. "You can't judge me for that though," I said. "That man has it all..."

Ajax cleared her throat taking Lily and I out of our daydreams. "I suppose you're right." Lily grinned even wider. "But it still scared the shit out of us."

Lily sighed. "Sorry," she said. Her face lifted suddenly as she picked up the wrappings from a stick of string cheese. "And, uh, this was the last thing in the fridge."

Ajax slapped her palm to her forehead. "I hate shopping."

I laughed and started for the front door. "Come on, guys," I said. "We have some shopping to do!" Ajax groaned before following me out of the door with Lily trailing close behind.

Once we secured our hideout, we started our walk towards the city. Thankfully it didn't take us long to walk from the woods to the nearest grocery store. Once we walked through the threshold, I froze mid-step. Lily and Ajax noticed and both gave me funny looks.

"What's wrong with you?" Ajax asked.

My mouth hung open as I raised a shaking hand towards a head of curly brown hair. "Is that..."

"What?" Lily asked as she turned to look at the boy. "I can't tell. He isn't facing us."

My hand dropped back to my side. "Harry Styles," I cooed. I took a hesitant step towards him.

"Scarlett, no," Ajax growled quietly. "Stay away."

I took another step ignoring her warning.

"How do you even know that it's him?" Lily asked.

I ignored her too and took another step closer. I was just about to jump forward and hug him before he turned around. "You are not Harry," I said and jumped back in surprise.

When the man realized what I said, his face fell. "I am well aware," he said. "I am who they call Justin."

"Well, um..." I struggled to find the words to form a complete sentence. "I'm really sorry, Justin. I'll just-"

"Hey now," he said, grabbing my arm. "You know my name, it's only fair that I know yours."

Before I could respond, Ajax and Lily came to my rescue. "I'm really sorry, sir, but we have to be going," Ajax said, pulling me out of his grip. "She just doesn't understand personal boundaries very well." She sent the man a sweet coated smile and directed me towards the cooler aisles.

"You are one impulsive person, Scar," Lily said shaking her head.

"Is that a good thing or a bad thing?" I asked with a light chuckle.

"Who knows," she responded as she patted a spot on my back.

I frowned and glanced back to where the man was, but the space that he had occupied was now vacant. I sighed and returned my focus to shopping.

Ajax decided that it would be more efficient if the three of us split up and looked for specific items instead of all of us going together for one thing after another. Needless to say, it made the trip significantly quicker than I had initially imagined it would be and we were out of there in close to twenty minutes. After leaving the store, we headed straight home to put the groceries away, and with an unspoken agreement, we all headed to our rooms.

Hey peepz! So a few things...

1) This is only important because you might think that they (NH HS and KS) are as old as they are now... They aren't Harry and Niall are about 20/21 and Kendall is about 23. So yeah... if you are confused about why they sound young in my descriptions, that's why.

2) Somethings didn't happen. For example, Zayn is still in One Direction, Paul is still their bodyguard and Big Time Rush is still a band.

And

3) It is really hard for me to update on this account because this is my 2nd (out of 3) accounts, so it might be a wait for the next update.

I think that's all. I will meet up with the co-writer to see if I missed anything. So for now...

Heyo! So this is Jordyn. Scar and I are currently in the process of re-writing this book. Honestly in a better way, instead of one of us working on it at a time we have decided to write it together. I'm super excited to re-release this story, it will hopefully have more structure and overall be more fun to read.
