Mia
"Seem, you wanna take a little trip?"
He shook his head and crossed his arms.
"Daddy said we stay here. I'm telling" he whined.
I bit down on my lip, and ran my hand through my hair. I didn't have much of a choice. I really didn't want to leave him, but I didn't want to fight with him either. I looked at the time on the wall. I only had twenty minutes to execute all of this perfectly. I packed everything the night before, got a separate bank account, and a new phone line as well. I had taken enough of Courtney's bullshit for one lifetime. I only knew of one place I could possibly go.
"Seem, look at mommy's face" I stated softly, wiping away the makeup from my face.
He looked at me and scrunched his face up.
"Ma, dad do that?" he questioned, rubbing over my swollen face.
I nodded my head, as the tears fell down my face. I'd been letting a nigga beat my ass constantly for the past 3 to 4 years. When I met Qasim I was involved with Courtney. I never expected to get pregnant. I told myself it would be okay. My son would stop the beatings. Who would beat the mother of their child. I was wrong as hell. When Seem was born he beat my ass in the hospital. He beat my ass because Seem had curly hair, whilst his was straight. He beat my ass because Seem cried, and he beat my ass because his mama said Seem wasn't his. Granted, Seem wasn't his- but I tried to tell him that it was a possibility.
"I sorry mama. We leave, come on!"
I picked him up and glanced at the clock. I had less than ten minutes to leave. I grabbed my keys, as I felt my hair being tugged from behind.
"Where the fuck you going Mia?"
There was no way this was happening right now. I timed everything perfectly. I swear I did.
"I was just going to the store Court. We needed food" I cried, trying to pry my hair from his grip.
He gripped it tighter, and I could feel strands of it being ripped from my scalp. I winced as he pulled my hair more.
"Put my fucking son down"
I shook my head, and held Seem tighter to my chest.
"He's not just your son Court, he's my son too" I whispered, as I felt metal being pressed to my temple.
"The fuck I tell your dumb ass" he hissed, and I heard the gun click.
I put Seem on the floor, and prayed he ran for help. As soon as his feet touched the ground he was out the door, and running next door.
"Seem bring your ass back here" he yelled, but Seem kept running.
"You trying to leave me though, and you gone take my son from me." he yelled as he pushed me on the couch.
"You trying to take my son, and my pussy from me" he snarled, as he ran the gun down my leg.
I silently prayed that someone would answer their door for Seem. Anybody. I didn't give a fuck who it was.
He wrapped his hand around my neck, and squeezed.
"You can't answer me Mia?"
"No, we really needed some grocery" I wheezed, and he loosened up.
He chuckled, and bit his lip.
"You must really think I'm stupid huh? Do I look like Joe Blow?"
He slapped me with the butt of the gun, and I grabbed my face.
