Jack's POV

A month.

A whole fucking month and I hadn't heard from Dean. I dialed his number for the thousandth time that day, it went straight to voicemail, as it had a million times before. I sighed. I'd tried calling James, he never answered. I've tried going to the apartment but nobody came to the door. There was only one thing I could do now. I called Daniel, he picked up almost instantly.

"Dean?!" My heart almost shattered as soon as I heard him say it.

"It's Jack..." I sighed.

"Oh... hey..." I couldn't help but notice the disappointment in his voice. "I'm guessing you haven't heard from him either, huh?"

"No, that's kinda why I was calling you."

"You... You don't think he's-"

"No. James would've told us."

"Are you sure he would?" Daniel asked, sounding annoyed.

"Honestly, I don't know. I've tried everything, I've called Dean, I've called James. I've gone to the apartment multiple times."

"And..?"

"Nothing."

He let out a sigh.

"I'm on my way... again..."

He hung up. I grabbed my keys and ran out the door. I have to find out if he's okay. I sprinted all the way to the apartment building, not caring how much my lungs burned or how much my legs ached. I just needed to see him. I was almost at the front doors when I caught sight of a familiar person outside.

"Lucas!" I shouted, he spun around, looking alarmed. He relaxed when he realised it was me.

"Jack! Hey!" He smiled.

"Where is he?! Where's Dean?! Is he okay?!"

Lucas placed his hands on my shoulders.

"Calm down, he's fine."

"I need to see him! Can you let me in?"

He hesitated.

"S-Sure..."

He unlocked the front door, holding it open and signalling for me to go in first. I followed him up the stairs to Dean and James' apartment. Everything was silent.

"Uhh... Just wait out here for a second." He said, unlocking the apartment door and walking in. After a moment I heard muffled voices through the wall, gradually getting louder until they came to an abrupt stop. Lucas reappeared at the door.

"You can come in now." He smiled.

I walked in to be met by the smell of... blood..?

"Hey Jack, how are you?" James asked, sitting down on the sofa and gesturing for me to sit next to him.

"I'm okay. Is Dean here? I've been really worried about him."

"Oh, yeah, he's asleep at the moment. Do you want me to tell him that you stopped by?"

I nodded.

"If you don't mind."

"Yeah, no problem."

"Thanks."

I was quiet for a moment.

"This might sound weird but... Can- Can I see him please? I just want to know if he's okay."

James and Lucas glanced at each other.

"I'll go see if he's awake yet." Lucas said, he walked into the bedroom.

James smiled at me.

"It's good to know you care about Dean so much."

I smiled softly back at him.

Lucas returned a few minutes later, looking relieved.

"He's still asleep but you can go and see him now."

"Thanks." I said, standing up. I made my way into the bedroom, followed by Lucas. I looked at the bed to see Dean curled up beneath the duvet. He was okay. Dean was okay. I sat down on the edge of the bed and looked closer at his face and saw a small cut on his cheek. I brushed it lightly with my fingers.

"How did he get this?" I asked Lucas.

He shrugged.

I sighed, standing up. I thanked James and Lucas on my way out and made my way home, somewhat relieved. But there were a few things in the back of my mind that were driving me crazy.

Why did James and Lucas look so scared when I asked to see him?

And why didn't he answer his phone if he was okay?

I felt like I was missing something extremely obvious.

I pushed my front door open and slammed it loudly behind me, not bothering to lock it. I made my way upstairs and collapsed onto the bed. The house felt too empty without Dean. After falling asleep for god knows how long, I woke up and immediately picked up the blade that was on my bedside table. I'd gotten used to keeping one near me, just in case I got the urge to cut. Thankfully, I'd never plucked up the courage to do it.

Until now.

I pulled the side of my jeans down and brought it to my hip, pressing it against my skin. I was about to drag it down when my door suddenly swung open.

"Jack! What the fuck are you doing?!" Daniel screamed, running over and slapping the blade out of my hand.

"I- Wh- When did you get here??"

"A few hours ago, I let myself in whilst you were asleep. Now do you want to tell me what the hell you were doing?"

"I haven't done it before! I swear!"

"Good. Keep it that way." He placed a hand on my shoulder. "Jack, listen. It's not going to help you at all, it just makes everything a whole lot worse." He sighed, lifting his sleeve up to reveal numerous fresh cuts on his arm.

"Dan... No..." I gasped.

He smiled sadly, rolling his sleeve back down.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"I didn't want you to worry about me."

"Does Lucas know?"

He shook his head.

"I don't think it's a good idea to tell him. We've only been dating for like a month, I don't think I'm ready to tell him stuff like this."

I put my arms around him, pulling him closer to me.

"Please tell me next time."

He sighed.

"I will."

"Promise?"

"I promise."

We stayed like that for a while before my phone started buzzing, I checked the screen to see that it was Dean calling me.

"Dean! Hi! Are you okay?!"

"I'm fine." He said quietly.

"What's up? Is everything alright?"

"Everything's fine, I just wanted to call to let you know that me and James are..." He didn't finish his sentence.

"Breaking up..?" I guessed, praying that I was right.

He sighed.

Nope, not right.

"We're getting married, Jack..."
