Graceful As A Swan
Chapter 36
Rachel's POV
The question that I most commonly got asked in high school was "Where will I be in 10 years from now?" Well, it's four years later and I've done well for myself so far. I've landed in roles in two Broadway shows. A starring one in Funny Girl and a supporting one in Wicked, but despite that, I still don't feel completely confident in myself. Will has been trying to get me to see myself the way that he sees me. I'm doing somewhat better, but I'm still lacking some.
I often read inspiration quotes to uplift myself. I know it sounds dorky, but believe me when I tell you that I am not the only person in the world who does this. Some of the greats have done it too like Patti, Barbara, and more. One of my personal favorites is "Confidence has nothing to do with what you look like. If you obsess over that, you'll end up being disappointed in yourself all the time. Instead, high self-esteem comes from how you feel in any moment. So walk into a room acting like you're in charge, and spend your energy on making the people around you happy." Marian Seldes said it and I live by it. In fact, I think every performer lives by it to a certain extent.
Anyways the point to all of my rambling is that it's not that I hate myself because I know that I'm extremely gifted, it's just I need to surround myself with more people who give off a positive vibe. With time, I know that I can be as graceful as a swan.
