This is a flashback chapter.... I've been super duper busy with work this week again (hence the lack of updates) but I should be updating quite a lot this weekend.

[[FLASHBACK]]

"My mum should be here now" I frowned looking at my watch

My mum had said she'd collect Ricky and I from the cinema at 6:30 and it was now 6:45pm. Not exactly ridiculously late but my mum is never late, shes always at least 10 minutes early, hence why we had been waiting outside since 6:20.

"Life will be so much better when I have a license" Ricky sighed, "We'd be at home already if I had a car"

"And we could go on road trips" I said joining in with his future car daydream

We were discussing all the things we'd do if we had a car when Rhonda pulled up in her blue car; I was surprised to see Lance was sitting in the passenger seat. He looked like he'd been crying.

"Is mum okay?" I gasped running over to the car and leaning in the window. My heart was pounding

"Your mums... okay. She's at home" Rhonda said soothingly while Lance continued facing forward, almost in a trance like state

"What about dad?"

"Get in the car Emily" Rhonda said smiling, though I could tell something was worrying her, "Nobody's hurt"

I turned to look at Ricky but he just shrugged, obviously as confused as I was

We both got in the car

"Lance whats going on?" I asked as we drove back towards where we lived

Lance completely ignored me, just sniffing slightly

"Maybe you could have dinner at ours tonight and then sleep over?" Rhonda said, faking a cheerful voice

I frowned, now knowing something was definately up

"Thanks Rhonda but I think I'll go home" I replied

There was obviously something going on at my home that she didn't want me to see or know about but I had to find out what it was.

Whatever it was had upset Lance.

I mentally wondered what it could be, I didn't think I'd done anything wrong: my grades were good, I hadn't been in any trouble. I was sure the same could be said for Lance as well.

"No Emily I really think you should stay at ours, your mum and dad have things to discuss" Rhonda said firmly, "It's better that you and Lance are out the way"

I started panicking now. What could be going on? I hoped mum and dad weren't arguing - they never argued.

"Things to discuss" scoffed Lance, finally talking, "I think dads made up his mind good and proper"

My stomach sank

"About what?" I asked, though thinking back I think I already knew

"He's leaving us all Emily" Lance said bitterly

There had to be some mistake. Dad loved us, he loved me. He loved Lance too.

There must be some kind of misunderstanding

I sat in a stunned silence for the rest of the journey; Rickys fingers found mine and intertwined with them, he gave my hand a gentle squeeze.

When we pulled up outside Rhondas I saw my dad putting something in his car and then heading back into our house. Before Rhonda had even switched off the engine I was out of the car and chasing after my dad, ignoring the shouts from the car.
